Well, we'll see.
Canadians have a new Prime Minister-Elect today, Justin Trudeau, whose Liberals swept across much the country in a tide of change, after 10+ years of Harper Conservative rule. It did come at the expense of the NDP, I think, and the Green Party too. I know I voted strategically, just to get rid of Harper, but our riding typically is Liberal anyway, or has been for the almost 20 years I've been here.
The thing is, it wouldn't have mattered what party or who was in power; after that many years we all would have said enough is enough. And if Trudeau is around for a decade, we'll probably oust him then too.
So now we'll see.
I'm not dissatisfied with the results, though I am very surprised it was a Liberal majority. It's the first time in Canadian politics that a third-ranked party has swept to the forefront like this.
I think, though, that like Obama in the States, it will be impossible for Justin Trudeau to live up to peoples' expectations.
And never forget that politicians always spout promises and rhetoric, while saying very little...and very, very rarely following through on any of those touted election campaign promises.
So while I'm pleased that the Harper reign is over, I'm quite well aware that no government is going to do anything for me--someone who is not the working poor but not the middle class either, who is middle aged and single with no children, who has no savings and no investments.
As I said, we'll see.

But I'm glad Harper is out. He struck me as a bullying, uncaring sort.
Like you, however, I expect no government to do anything for me. My taxes have always been about the same amount, taking enough to keep me from being comfortable and giving me enough to permit me to live from month to month. Basically the same as things were in the Middle Ages, but with glass in the windows now.
I like the comment that things are the same now as in the Middle Ages, only with glass windows! LOL. Yeah, it sure feels like it sometimes, in spite of all the advances, all the "stuff" we manage to accumulate now.
