A heartfelt thank you to strangers

The 18-seat commuter plane to Toronto, November 25
A deep, heartfelt thank you to Judy, who chatted with me while waiting to board that little plane to Toronto. You kept me distracted when I needed it! I hope your flight home to the Sudbury area was a safe one.

To Heather (blue sleeve on far right), who offered to hold my hand on takeoff, because you saw the tears were rolling down my face, out of fear, in spite of the two Ativan I had taken in only 12 hours. I was grateful for that hand! I hope the visit with your brother in Calgary goes well and that your travels are safe too.

You can see the blur of motion from the propellers on the far right.
Over greater Toronto, heading for Pearson Airport.

To the older gentleman I sat beside on the Toronto-Halifax leg: Thank you for chatting with me and keeping my mind occupied. You, too, don't fly well and so understood how I felt. I hope your short stint to Halifax for work went smoothly--as well as your flight back to Toronto.

Flying over New Brunswick and the tip of Nova Scotia, heading into Halifax.

To Denise and Peter, who were in my row on the flight from Halifax to Toronto: Thank you both for the conversation! Denise, thank you for holding my hand on take-off. I hope your long-awaited, first-time luxury river cruise in Germany is fantastic. Enjoy Vienna too! What an incredible 60th birthday gift for you, Denise. Good luck to your son and daughter-in-law, I hope they find work in Halifax and are able to move back soon, so you can have your family all together. I know you're eager to have your two very young grandsons nearby!

Waiting to board our plane in Halifax.
Our plane home, the small 18-seater again, from Toronto.
To the older couple ahead of me, who, with about 10 minutes to spare, had to run from one end of the terminal in Toronto to the other, to make your flight home, thank you for checking on me! I was pretty much hyperventilating on take-off, no hand to hold, but I so appreciate that you turned around asked how I was doing, once we leveled off at cruising altitude. Yeah, I bawled even harder with this flight than the first one, but you didn't see that.

Seeing the ground was interesting, but it was scarier for me too.
This little plane flies at 16,000 ft up.

A huge thank you to the pilots and co-pilots who made all four flights safe. Landing in our city was dicey yesterday, it was pea soup until we got really close to the ground.

And with deep gratitude to the Fates/gods/goddesses/universe, that dying in a horrific plane crash wasn't in the cards. May it never be.

Peace.

Hi Kim, we are so glad you are safe and well! Sounds like you had so many wonderful people on your flights.
Take care!

I did. Of course, it probably "helped" that no doubt I looked pathetically, desperately frightened and people took pity. :-D

Isn't it wonderful that people even strangers will reach out literally with a helping hand to hold! When all you hear is how destructive the human race is, it's very heartfelt to hear stories such as yours Kim. I know you were under a lot of stress flying and I'm glad things went so well. That was some flight. Know you are glad to be back home with your kitties.

It's amazing the kinds of wonderful people you can meet when you're on a flight. Their lives touch yours for a brief hour or two, but you remember them much longer. As dehumanizing as the whole ordeal of airline travel is these days, it's actually a place full of surprising bright spots about humans!

Yes, I'm very glad to be back. I wish it was an easy 1 or 2-hour train commute to both my parents', not a full day's travel each way.

You're right, I'll remember them for a long time to come. Maybe I'll be able to pay it forward some day, in similar fashion.

Glad you made it there and back safe and sound. It's so nice to have helpful strangers just when you need them the most. I hope you visit with you Mom went well and she is settling in to her new place now and feeling at home in it.

Your human companions helped you. They were your saving grace for the trip. Bless them. Glad you are home. You were extraordinarily brave. Yes, you were!

God bless the kindness of strangers. I think sometimes it does take someone who is "new", and objective, to see what we need. You did it, my friend.♡

She seems to be settling in well and is very excited to be having a new dining table and chairs, plus hutch, and hall bench, delivered this week.

They were indeed.

I might need stronger drugs the next time I have to fly. :-P
Kea said…
Yes, I definitely was blessing them! Obviously they fly more than I do. Lol.
I'm glad your flights went without incident and that there were kind souls on board to help you along ...

I'm happy to hear you made it safe and sound. Grateful too for those around you who took notice of your worries and were so kind. I take flying for granted because I love it, but next time I promise to look for those who are less enthusiastic.

I bet Nicki and Derry are happy to have you home.

Such flights really are safe and routine, though I know that doesn't help your feelings when flying. What does help are strangers willing to take the time and effort to be kind. Good for them. And good for you for accomplishing this! Well done!

What nice people. It reminds me to look out for nervous flyers, something I never think about because I love flying.

Glad to hear you made it to your mums safely.
How wonderful you found such nice and understanding people to help you get through all of those flights. I have never flown such a small plane and the thought of it starts panic attacks! For me, the plane can't be big enough! Congratulations on doing it and you know it meant the world to your mom.

I so appreciated their kindness -- yes, if you love to fly and are sitting beside someone who obviously doesn't or is in distress, a kind word will go a long way!
Kea said…
I'm not sure "enjoy" is the right word for the visit, but it was good to see Mom. I hope it won't be another 4 years between visits.

Thanks. Those people were wonderful, no question. Maybe most of us are inherently kind...when we don't have our heads glued to our smart phones or tablets and actually take notice of our surroundings, including people.

Once I'm at cruising altitude, usually I get very fatalistic. Might as well occupy myself with a few pics. :-)
Kea said…
I am too, on both counts, thanks!
Kea said…
I'll certainly remember them long after they've forgotten me! :-)
Kea said…
Nope, doesn't help at all. LOL. I'll do it again to get from point A to point B in the most efficient way, but I certainly won't like it.
Kea said…
Yes, it's worth bearing in mind that some of us are terrified and appreciate a kind word or two! :-)
Kea said…
Yes, even though you might be safer in a small propeller plane, it's still scary. Scary for me to see the ground, actually.

what a nice post. I don't mind the flying part - it is the take off and landing parts

I think you were very brave to take those flights! I flew a couple of times in a small prop from Calgary to Castlegar in BC and it was terrifying! Well done you! And it does the heart good to know that there are such kind people around! Hugs, Caro ❤️
