Taking deep breaths

I'm flying out to Halifax early Wednesday morning, for a few days with Mom. Some of you know that I don't fly well at all (I have Ativan for this trip) and right now I can feel my anxiety levels rising off the charts. The plane out of our city seats only 18, and just the thought of it makes me want to hyperventilate. It doesn't help that every time you turn on the news there's a plane being diverted for one reason or another, or a plane crash. Aacckk!

Of course the pet sitter will be taking care of them; she's stopping by after work today so I can go over everything with her and give her the four pages of notes. Four pages for three days away...That's reasonable, right?  :-D

Nicki's improved on the Prednisolone and is back to eating. I have no clue what the root cause of the fluid in his ear is. Viral? When I get a cold it almost invariably goes to my right ear (like now), but I've not heard of that happening with cats. I'm sure it's possible to have symptoms of a virus pretty much anywhere, though.

A long shot: Is it related to some ingredient in the newer, grain-free kibble? I had gradually switched them over a couple of months to PetValu's Performatrin Ultra Grain-Free turkey + whatever and am on my first bag of it on its own, not mixed with the old. (As an aside, Nicki prefers the old kibble I was getting from PetSmart, with its larger pieces, and Derry prefers the new, with its smaller pieces!)

I wish we could speak each other's language!
I realize I might never know the cause, so I'll see how he does after he's weaned off the Pred in 2 - 3 weeks.

I turned my outdoor holiday lights on last night (via timer). Seasonal decor always makes me feel cheery, cosy and homey. If I weren't going to be away, I'd have put my little tree up this weekend too, but that will have to wait till I'm back. I did pick up a small string of cute snowflake lights, and put them up in my kitchen, underneath the upper cupboards. They look pretty when the other lights are off.
Mom doesn't have wi-fi and her old computer is ultra-slow, so I likely won't have much of a connection while I'm gone. That's not a bad thing, as FaceBook might drive me to disconnect completely. Ha. (It must be my introverted nature, wanting only a few deep and meaningful connections, not a barrage of--let's be honest--90% crap.)

Anyway, everyone please take good care and cross your fingers that the boys are fine while I'm gone...and that I get there and home safe and sound, alive and well!

Peace.

I'm sure your visit with your mum will be a good one, and that the boys will be fine. As for flying, it seems to me that the smaller aeroplanes are the ones bothered least by troubles. You'll have a fun time.

The boys probably would tunnel over. :-)

Thanks!

Dad always would say that smaller planes glide further.

Not very comforting.

Enjoy your time with your Mom. The boys will be fine, easy to say I know but they have a professional looking after them.
I understand your anxiety flying, I hate flying too!
Take care and talk soon.

Yes, easy to say. LOL. Thanks, Robin.

Don't underestimate yourself. It sounds like you have a good grip on everything. Now, take a deep breath along with the Ativan, and enjoy yourself. ♡

Have a good visit with your mom, Kim. The boys will be fine. And as for flying, I love it... not so much the take off and landing, but once we're in the air, I find it magical. I took Ativan once to keep my heart from beating out of my chest for a dental procedure. It worked.

Just trying to keep everything in mind that needs to be organized is challenging. :-)

Taking deep breaths...and lots of Ativan. LOL. Thanks! Nice to see you back!

Okay, YOU fly and see my mom, give her my love. LOL.

I've been taking half an Ativan from time to time, just to make sure I'm calm but awake. I can't be unconscious--the first flight is too short and then I have to make my way through Toronto's Pearson Airport to...wherever...for the second flight. :-p
you will be fine!! Have a good stiff drink on the plane...if a plane that small has alcohol!! (KIDDING!! SORRY!!)
I am doubting food would cause ear problems, but what the heck do I know?
Things COULD be worse...I am spending the weekend at my mother's in Cleveland in December and guess what? My mother has NO INTERNET at all...I am going to lose my freakin mind!

Safe travels! I'm one of those people who love flying, but that may be because I tend to fall asleep on take-off. (I don't sleep long).

I hope the change in food works for Nicki. Poor boy, he's had more than his fair share of problems.

Have a great visit with you mom and enjoy the unplugged time!

I hope you have a good visit with your Mom, I know she will be so glad to see you. I'm sure you'll miss those two boys of yours while you're gone, and they will miss you too. But, they will be fine for a few days, although I completely understand that is easier said than felt. Enjoy your time away and look forward to hearing all about it when you get back.

Can't drink and take Ativan at the same time. And I WILL be taking Ativan! :-D

OMC, you cracked me up re: your mom not having ANY internet. I'd lose my mind too. Good luck getting something temporarily, if possible.

Thanks. And I know, Nicki's had a lot of issues. Maybe it's the mould spores in my attic or something. :-/

Thanks...The boys probably will be better than me. Well, Nicki anyway, not sure about Derry. He disappeared UTB when the pet sitter stopped in after work yesterday, and he didn't come out for a LONG time, even when I went up and crouched down to look at him, talk to him. But since I'm going, he'll just have to manage.

I hope you have a safe & fun trip. I've flown a lot. It doesn't scare me. Driving in the car scares me more actually (especially in PA!). The kitties will be fine Try not to worry; although, believe me, I know that's easier said than done. I really hope you enjoy your time with your mom! I am always happy when I come home and get to see the kitties again. I always miss them a lot.
