"You will not be punished FOR your anger...

....you will be punished BY your anger."

It's a great fake Buddha quote, one that I'm experiencing at the moment.

Last Wednesday evening, for whatever reason, I had a meltdown over the next door neighbour noise. That entailed a lot of gritting of teeth and silent screaming out of sheer frustration.

Thursday I noticed that the right side of my mouth was sore, the teeth super-sensitive. I didn't give it much thought, just that it was peculiar. Friday it was worse, so when I toddled off to bed that night, I popped my night guard in, something I haven't worn in a very long time (year or more).

Saturday I spent the day in the worst pain I've experienced in my life, ever. Easily a 25 on a scale of 1 to 10. Over-the-top excruciating pain radiating from my jaw up my face and into my ear. I got Tylenol 1s and popped those, and Advil, all day, like they were candy.

No more night guard for me! (I originally stopped wearing it because I found I clenched down even more through the night with it in than without. This time I thought it might help protect my already sore teeth. Ha.)

Sunday was a bit better, today a bit worse. (Nothing like Saturday, mercifully.) I see my dentist tomorrow morning.

So my [expression of] anger has "punished" me by creating some dental issue that probably will be long, costly and painful to resolve.

It's kind of funny, in a way.

Mom would always tell me, "God will punish you for _____ [fill in the blank]."

Guess she was right!  :-p

Peace.

I hope that your pain settles or goes away soon Kim and I really hope your neighbors head away for the holidays.

I'm bracing myself for the dental appointment tomorrow. Hope she doesn't tell me I need 6 crowns... or worse.

As for the neighbours, they've gone for the Christmas break in previous years and I'm sincerely hoping they do the same this year as well. No guarantees, though!

Hope your dental appointment goes well tomorrow and that there won't be need for anything more than meds and rest for your teeth.

That would be the best, most desirable outcome! I really need to learn to manage my melt downs better. I'm glad they are fewer and farther between these days. :-)

I sympathise with the noisy neighbour thing! For several years I had nightmare neighbours who listened to loud music and watched horror movies it seemed all night! I took to wearing ear plugs, which actually hurt my ears after a while! I hope the dentist visit is not traumatic and too expensive!!! hugs, Caro x

That pain sounds awful. I sure hope the dentist says that it will just take a little time but no work needed. Maybe he or she will even have some nice pain pills for you.

Oh Kim, poor you! I'm so sorry. Hope everything was o.k. at the dentist today.

I didn't see this post before you added a later one, so I will simply remark that there is something especially bad about dental pain. I would rather have pain that is worse from another part of the body than milder pain from the teeth - and it doesn't sound like yours was anything close to mild. On to the dentist, quick!

I agree with John and I had seen the other one before this one and said much the same. And no, you were't punished for anger. Really.

I feel for you, for the pain, not the self-imposed punishment. Don't do that to yourself. You have enough to deal with without stressing over things that you didn't cause. Be good to You.
