Bracing for up to 16 inches of snow (and more updates)
I can see some light snow in the air right now; we're bracing for up to 40 cms (16 in) in our area, overnight and through tomorrow. All I can say is that Nicki and I had better be able to get to the vet and home again without problem come Thursday morning.
Okay.
I hauled out some leftover primer and slapped some on the wall in the area that would be behind the toilet. It's been 16 years since the room has been painted, and while I'm not yet ready to redo it (other things first), I at least wanted some primer on that part before the toilet goes back in place.
Then I primed the vanity cabinet, since I can't replace it anytime soon, and then put a coat of the leftover melamine (?) paint I had used on the kitchen counter last year. I'm not putting a second coat on, at least not today.
I had just finished when the floor guy called to ask if he could pop over to check out the situation. The upshot is that he'll come Wednesday afternoon to cut away the part of the sub-floor around the toilet, and will take up the vinyl flooring at the same time. (A difficult job, getting that paper backing up.)
I logged onto work email and asked my boss if I could have Wednesday off, explained why. If I can find some flooring Wednesday morning, D. could finish the job in one shot. If not, he'll have to come back after I've found what I want.
I need to call the plumber tomorrow to ask what would be involved if I decided to replace the toilet entirely. I can get a new one for less than $150, I know that, but would it come with everything needed for installation? Would the plumber be willing to pick it up for me? (As opposed to me paying $60+ to have the box store deliver it.)
So there's still lots up in the air, and in the meantime, the old toilet is sitting there, drying out. I'm putting water into the tank every day, but of course it just trickles into the bowl.
Oh, I went back to the same Dollarama yesterday (minus 41 Celsius windchill, folks) and it turned out to be that the heating or air or whatever was exhausting back into the store, it wasn't a gas leak, thank goodness. So I bought the same items I'd had to abandon in my cart on Saturday, and a few more things besides.
BTW, poor Derry. On Saturday, after the plumber had gone, I finally found my smoochy boy cowering under the covers of the guest futon. I have it in the "up" (couch) position, and he'd crawled under the duvet cover. Same thing today, after D. left. Derry was under the futon covers. Poor sweet boy, he's being traumatized by all of this kerfuffle!
Another cat-related note: Tomorrow is the fifth anniversary of Annie's death. I have a very brief commemorative post scheduled, with comments off. I really don't want to go down memory lane. I'll focus on what needs to get done in the house instead.
Peace.

The vanity looks great! Smart move to paint behind the toilet while it is off. No fun trying to do it with the toilet there.
You are in our thoughts always Kim.
Take care.
(My first comment had auto-incorrect change Derry's name...)
The bathroom looks great. I had to laugh at the comment about behind the toilet. I don't know how many houses I've been in where that spot was missed. (or the back of the toilet was splashed with paint).
Poor Derry, that is my Sasha's reaction too. The mirror lady is here tonight and he made a mad dash for my bedroom. Saku came to help but I've tossed him and Sami in the bedroom with Sasha, until she leaves.
I always think that home renovations should be made while one can get some enjoyment out of them. So many people wait until just before they sell...who knows if the new owner will share the same taste!
Stay warm!
YOU are plotting full steam ahead -- good for you! If possible I hope you can get your toilet replaced. I want to do that too, and maybe one day I will one day in the not distant future. We'll see how it all plays out.
Hope things go well on Thursday.
Be warm & safe.
Hugs and gentle purrs from us as you remember your sweet Annie.
The back of my old toilet is kind of gross. The inside of the tank is super-gross. LOL.
I can't imagine being able to sell for the next year or two, at least, so anything I do now I'll be able to enjoy (insofar as I can "enjoy" living here, given the circumstances) until I have a better-for-me/us home.
I think it's just as well I have plenty to occupy mind at this time!
