Small Pleasures Continued
From "You are not stuck" via Facebook
Friday I went for a lunch time walk with my former cubicle mate. We're making an effort to stay connected by meeting for lunch every 2 - 3 weeks, so that certainly was a (not so) small pleasure for the day.
Also for Friday: We had stopped at Starbucks on the way back for a cool drink (it was hot out), my treat, only as I was trying to pay, the whole cash register went down. The young man behind the counter said they were having problems with it and to "run" before it came back online. In other words, we got our drinks for free. Terrific bonus!
Lovely, cool, mostly cloudy weather on Saturday! Who knew overcast skies and 20C temps could be such a joy. LOL. Definitely a pleasure for me, given that there's no air conditioning or central air in the house.
And also on Saturday: I had popped into HomeSense, just to browse, ended up splurging on a set of two small (12-inch) canvas floral prints, my colours of yellow and green. I looked at them, told myself I don't need them, asked myself if they made my soul sing and the answer was a resounding yes!
So I spent the $20 and have put them up on the wall above my dining/computer table. I had thought to put them in my bedroom, but I wouldn't see them much if I had. I used those removable Command hooks to put them up, so if I change my mind about location they're easily moved, without damage to the QuietRock drywall.
I also found a really nice, small (10" x 15") wooden tray (at HomeSense), to use for the TV remotes, etc. I had been using a large wicker tray (which I'll keep), but the size of this smaller one is much better. A good deal on that too, less than the canvas prints, so I was pleased. Another small pleasure!
Miscellaneous small pleasures for the weekend: Going back to bed this morning, to doze and to listen to Mary Ito's last broadcast as host of "Fresh Air" on CBC Radio One. (I'm going to miss her voice and engaging personality.)
Silly as it seems, getting a few chores done (like cutting what's left of the grass), chores that have been pending for a while. And yes, collecting more stuff for the next donation! Also enjoying a cold beer this afternoon, something I seldom drink but like on a hot day (temps are on the rise again). Oh, and sitting out with the boys early this morning, while drinking my coffee. It's my heart's true joy to be able to give them that little back space. :-)
Another simple pleasure: Snapping a few pics of yesterday's evening sky.
I've been feeling a bit down the past few days, not hormones, but more likely a combination of too much sugar (which is a depressant for me) and too much watching of recent events on the news, here in Canada (the little girl and her mom), France and the U.S. So I'm making a concerted effort to focus on more positive things, for there still is so much to be thankful for, so much about life to appreciate.
Peace and Light to All Beings.

For pictures to hang, there is only one more that I know I would splurge on, and that is a painting by Maxfield Parrish. I have some of his - posters, framed - and the combination of realism and fantasy in them take me away.
Love your picture. What a terrific reminder that there are so many small pleasures to be enjoyed. We just have to look! :)
Hugs to you and the boys!
House chores...Well, I actually *like* to vacuum! Instant results, instant gratification. LOL.
and Kim, anything that makes your "soul sing" or your "heart smile" is worth having around.
Beautiful evening sky!
I am the same as "John Bellen". As you know we don't watch T.V so don't hear as much sad stuff as if we were watching the nightly news.
We had a wonderful day yesterday didn't we? I think that counts as a small pleasure!
Take care.
