Advances in bubble wrap...who knew?
I love bubble wrap. Who doesn't love bubble wrap? So imagine my surprise when package 1 of 3 from Ikea (yes, they had free shipping on Christmas Day) arrived today, nicely packed with big bubbles that wouldn't pop. Not only wouldn't they pop, all the sheets (3 in total) completely deflated with just one snip each of my scissors.
Agggghhhh! The disappointment! What kind of pseudo-bubble wrap is this?!
Who knew there were researchers toiling away in labs to make un-poppable bubble wrap? How can they look themselves in the mirror every morning? Everyone knows bursting those little bubbles is akin to a therapy session.
Humph.
Okay, I hope you realize that was written with tongue firmly in cheek. Even if it was a crushing blow.

On a different note, I had the urge to go thrift-store shopping today...in the snowstorm. Of course.
You can't see the wet snow being driven by the wind in these pics;
let's just say it wasn't pleasant.
I left the house just after 7 AM and bused up to Walmart for a few things, then over to Value Village, and then to the Mission Thrift Store. I scored big time!
Table linens
A fine bone china mug and some pretty side plates.
A fabulous basket, very well made, 11 inches in
diameter and about 13 inches tall at the handle.
A cute cat door decoration, quite solid and sturdy (i.e. not a dollar store cast-off).
And lots of tops! Two cardigans on the left (more teal/green than blue),
a turtleneck, two winter scarves.
Four white textured placemats (can't see them well at all here),
plus two more cardigans.
Plus, yesterday, when friends Robin and Chuck were up visiting, I found a spring/fall jacket at a downtown second hand store we had popped in to. No pic of that, but it's a well-made, heavy jacket and was a good buy.
So it's been a bargain shopping bonanza! (For the record, no one out-shops Robin when it comes to thrift store deals! I'm in awe of her!)
That's it for my holiday week shopping, though. I have two more packages from Ikea on the way, and if they arrive intact, I hope to get them assembled over the weekend. Hard to believe the time off is winding down already.
At least we're one day closer to Spring.

Bubble-wrap. I like twisting it, so a dozen of them go off at once. But society is degenerating in everything else, so why not bubble-wrap? It's a sign of the times.
Mind you, I would not have gone out in freezing rain, the kind we had on Boxing Day. (Here in Canada Boxing Day is about the same as Black Friday.)
I'm on the hunt for table linens, now that I have a "real" table and chairs (i.e. standard height, not counter height). Bed, Bath and Beyond had some really nice ones, but I'm not going to buy them at full price. I'd rather thrift-store hunt! :-)
Oh you did so well thrift shopping. I particularly like the table linens and I'm almost certain I have a cup similar to the floral one in my china cabinet. It belonged my mom I think.
Great cardigans too! The selection at regular stores is so limited and soooo expensive I think you've inspired me to make a trip to VV tomorrow.
