Sometimes dreams really do come true

The real life back story to this is that there's a semi-regular bus rider I've been acquainted with for a year or two now. He used to take the morning bus, but now takes his car and parks close to one of the main streets to pick up an express bus. I see him more often on the way home, also on an "express" bus. He's an accountant and works at one of our hospitals. On the surface, he seems like a reasonably decent person, has two cats (Heidi and Gretchen).

We get off at the same express stop when on the way home, yet never once has he offered me a drive. (He lives down the street from me, half a block away, I'm right on his route.) I don't expect a virtual stranger to offer to drive me home, but if circumstances were reversed, I would at least ask. I guess that's just me.

I had that in mind Monday, as I made my way home over the slippery sidewalks, ice-grippers on my boots, and he passed me by in his car.

So that must have been the reason that Monday night I dreamed he and his kids (about four of them, all girls) drove me home. (Note: He doesn't have children in real life, the kids were in the dream only.) It was spring or summer, and they dropped me off at the gate in the fence that leads into the complex's green space.

That was it, that was all there was to the dream, as far as I can recall.

Fast forward to Tuesday's bus ride home. I was carrying two heavy bags of groceries and so picked up the express bus down at the hospital, which is the closest stop from the office (normally I walk part-way home). He also was getting on the same bus, so asked if I minded if he sat in the seat beside me (this bus always is crowded, standing room only, so getting a seat is like a minor miracle). We chatted about the cats, etc., while we inched our way uptown through crazy holiday traffic. The bus was running late, of course, and it was touch and go as to whether I'd make my transfer to the bus into my neighbourhood. Well, lo and behold, he actually offered me a drive home!

I hesitated a bit, then accepted, with appreciation. He did mention that he was aware that I don't know him or know what I could be getting in to. (I felt pretty safe in this instance, but of course you never know for sure. Plus I told him that he might be able to take me down, but that I'd hurt him in the process. Ha.) The irony is that he had a hunting knife on the front passenger seat of his car! LOL. I didn't even realize what it was (in its protective case) until he mentioned it (he put it on the back seat). I asked if he hunted (no), but apparently he uses it for cutting up cardboard at the recycling centre. Hmmm. Must be quite the enormous pieces of cardboard; I use a utility knife for my cardboard!

Anyway, I had him drop me off at the entrance to our complex, expressed my thanks and appreciation again, and that was it.

And thought, OMG, how bizarre was that, that I had just dreamed, the very night  before, that he (and his dream children) had given me a lift!

Sometimes dreams really do come true. Literally.

Maybe tonight I'll dream I've won the lottery!

Peace.

You are right Kim, that was bizarre! Thankfully nothing happened. I assume you didn't get any creepy feelings about him, well beyond the hunting knife! Hmmmmm, be careful Kim. I'm glad you didn't have him drop you off right at your home.

No, I've never had any creepy feelings from him, I wouldn't have accepted the ride if I had! But the hunting knife was hilarious.

I'm still waiting to dream I won the lottery! :-D

That's too funny! Glad everything was ok though. If you dream about the lottery, try to remember the numbers!

Oh, good point!

It is funny that the first time he offers you a ride is right after you dream about it.

And having a hunting knife to cut cardboard may be the equivalent of those people who buy the all-terrain, four-wheel drive trucks, then use them to drive the kids to soccer practice.

My garage is filled with massive amounts of cardboard packing from recent Ikea and Wayfair purchases; maybe I ought to have asked to borrow his hunting knife! :-D

In a good way.

I love this, Kim! It's amazing too how seemingly little things like getting a ride, especially when burdened with packages, makes such a difference in one's day. It's too funny that you just dreamed that very thing. It's a good thing you know him a little. That hunting knife could have been a little scary otherwise. I like what you said how about if he did try something, he'd get hurt in the process. :)

Some humans are worth trusting! I'm glad he offered, kind heart.

Kim, I don't know the laws in Canada, but my teenage son once got arrested after being stopped for a broken tail-light and he had a hunting knife (in it's sheath) on the back seat. Glad you got a ride, but do be careful. Using it to cut cardboard seems like overkill...

Yeah, it turned out okay! I've had a very few times in my life where a dream has come true in real life, but never the next day.

It *was* kind of him, and it certainly made a difference to me. I could have walked, but it wouldn't have been fun, with the heavy bags.

Well, you never know, even when someone *seems* okay on the surface, but I'm glad all was well in this instance. :-)

I hear you! I don't plan on hopping in his, or anyone else's, car again, though. I don't think he'd offer a ride again, anyway--no reason to.

That was nice of him to offer you a ride! The timing is very ironic! An accountant with a hunting knife? Have you heard of the movie The Accountant? Thank Cod that coincidence didn't play out! Lol, no, most of us accountants are mild although along about the end of tax season my hubby would beg to differ!
You definitely had a premonition.....the hunting knife thing is kind of scary but you are a smart woman and your instincts told you it was ok. I think next time he should lose that knife! xoox

I'm glad both the dream and the actual experience were good. Gotta agree the knife is a bit of overkill.

Seriously though it was very kind of him to offer you a ride. I'm sure seeing you with the big bags of groceries was a tipping point.

Have a great Friday and a very Merry Christmas!

It can be unnerving when things happen after we have dreamed it. Just be careful. Hug.

That is so wild, Kim! Net-net ... That was nice that he offered you a ride, especially because you were lugging those shopping bags. :)

Ohhhhh, I'm very glad I've NOT heard of that movie, let alone seen it. LOL.

I don't anticipate a "next time" for me, Caren! :-D

I thought it was decent. In spite of the whole knife thing. Ha.

A very Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I always try to be careful, believe me! Thanks!

What a great story! Make sure you keep a pad of paper and pencil next to the bed to write those lottery numbers down when you have that dream!
