Sometimes it pays to be curious
First, the coffee table I ordered from Bed, Bath and Beyond: I do have to return it to the store, the "ivory" has too much of a yellow undertone to go with the rest of my (Ikea) stuff, unfortunately. Really too bad, as it's a well-made table, has a solid wood top (very heavy!) and was a good price (less than $200 CAD). So I will keep my eye out for something that will be more suitable.

I was running my usual Saturday AM errands and had gone to PetSmart to pick up cat food. When I came out of the store I saw "hoards" of people streaming in and out of Jysk, just further down the sidewalk (it's part of a huge big box store complex in the west end of our city). By "hoards" I mean about a dozen people or so, just after 9 AM. Very strange, as the store doesn't even open until 9:30. So I popped over and it turned out that they were celebrating their 20th year in Canada and were giving $20 cards to customers, to spend this weekend.
Now, Jysk is a pretty junky store, IMO. I've found a few odds and ends there over the years, but I think of it as a lower-end Ikea, which, I suppose, says a lot, given that Ikea already is a budget retailer. But hey, a free $20 is a free $20, so I looked around and in the end bought a wall clock and large bamboo cutting board with handle. I paid only a few dollars, so thought it a pretty good deal.
So sometimes it does pay to be curious! :-)
Oh, and remember the park by our shopping centre (mall), the one with the little stream and all the snow tracks the other weekend? Here's the view today:
I had my winter hiking boots on, not rubber boots or waders (ha) so kept to the bit of high ground and didn't stay long. I keep telling my dad, via email, to bring rain and mud-proof footwear for his visit, and I sent him a couple of these pics as proof. I hope he listens to me, otherwise he'll be shopping for boots.
I have seen a tiny sign of spring, though:
Crocuses peeking up, spied while walking home after work on March 30th.
Spring is late, late, late this year, as it was last year too. Usually my garden ground cover is coming up and spreading by now and I can see the hosta buds. Nada this year, just mud. Soon, though...I hope.

What a great deal you received at Jysk! Never have shopped there so know nothing about it.
What a difference a week or two makes this time of year. The little stream is no longer little! I do hope your Dad listens and brings some wet weather footwear.
I keep peeking in my garden to see if any tulips are coming up. Nothing here!

Jysk is cheap stuff, but once in a while you can find something nice. A couple of my couch pillows come from there.

Hopefully, your dad packs some good shoes for the rain and mud. That little stream doesn't look very little! Those crocuses are a welcome sight. Hopefully, you see those hota buds show up soon in your garden.
I find it interesting that spring is late for you, but so early for us. I don't have anything growing yet, but the snow is gone, the robins are back and the bunnies are turning brown. It won't be long!

Possible! I don't think there's a dam in that location, the stream almost entirely dries up in the summer, but it could be at the head of the pond area on the other side.
I saw lots of crocuses and snowdrops yesterday, robins have been around for a while, and the red wing blackbirds too. It's just that our weather is cold with mixed precip and the greenery is late starting.
is there any way the table can be re finished? the fact you like it so well, perhaps there's a stain//paint/ that would work on it so you can keep it ?

We had spring in February too,though I think she might be on the return, at least for a couple of days. :-)
The landscaped sure changes when the thaw comes, eh?I remember when I was a boy living Down East, the spring would bring flooding to the low lying areas off the Saint John River, and we could canoe around trees growing out of the water.
