"And the beat goes on"

Regardless of the song's meaning, for me it means the same you-know-what, different week. I have two more working weeks after this, then I'm on vacation from 4 PM Friday September 30 to 8 AM Tuesday October 10 (after our Thanksgiving holiday). I'll have a few vacation days left after that, but am hanging on to them for vet appointments/other. Or the sheer, desperate need to get away from the office for an extra day, whichever comes first.

We had a young robin visiting a couple of weeks ago.
Sorry, Tabbies. Okay, I'm not sorry, I'm not sorry at all.*

[*Has anyone in Canada seen that Midas TV commercial with the "possessed" car? It's enormously stupid, I know it's stupid, but it makes me laugh every time I see/hear it. Maybe it's the voice of the car. "I'm sorry, Cheryl. No, I'm not, I'm not sorry at all." For some reason that cracks me up--every time.]

I'll be heading to visit friends while I'm off, just an overnight trip. It turns out that the pet sitter I'd had for my jaunts in May and July was dismissed, so the boys will have someone new yet again. This will be the third pet sitter in less than two years. I'll meet her for the first time the day before I head out, and I can only hope she's more attentive to detail and instruction than the previous sitter was. (I didn't register a complaint with the company owner, but now I wish I had.) What I need (the boys need) is to have one trusted and well-liked sitter, but it seems to be a business that has a high staff turnover. I can understand why, given that their time isn't their own, they pretty much have to be available 24/7 and I'm sure wages are at minimum or perhaps only slightly above. Certainly not a job for anyone who needs to support themselves.

The roses of Sharon still abound.

Nicki had some tunnel fun on the weekend.

Derry did more observing, as usual.

Bus stop kitty is around just about every morning.

I missed the full moon on the 6th, but did get a few shots of its waning, including this
one very early on the 10th. I know I say it every time, but I love that old Fuji p&s!

Oh, I found out today that my uncle's wife (they live in Italy) had a mastectomy this morning. Heavens! No one even bothered to tell me she had breast cancer. I did meet her once, some years back, not long after she and my uncle were married. My uncle sent a brief email letting family members know that the surgery went well and that they expected she'd be home in a couple of days. This was the first news I'd had -- can you tell we're a "close-knit" family? Jeepers. Anyway, I'm wishing her a speedy recovery and a clean bill of health.

From June 2010
There are other things going on, but they relate to work, and so either aren't really worth putting down here, or aren't appropriate.

Otherwise, the beat does, indeed, go on.

Peace.

Hi Kim, lovely photos as always, love the rose of Sharon and the two of the boys.
I had to google the Midas commercial. It is silly but the car voice is funny!
Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks!

Yeah, it's definitely the voice of the car.

Not as funny as that bat link you sent though!

See my reply to Robin above: For anyone who hasn't seen the video, check it out. "Catch him, Derry!"

Turn up your volume, it's hilarious!

Gotta google that and see the bat link too! I have relatives like that too. I think we all do.

Your rose of sharon is beautiful. I'm sure you are looking forward to your well deserved vacation. Hope the pet sitter turns out to be reliable.

Love the photo of Nicki in the tunnel...the perspective is priceless.
I totally get "the beat goes on". One foot in front of the other is something I say to myself frequently too. Vacations are definitely a welcome respite from the daily grind.

Off to search for the link to the car ad...I can't say I've seen it. I did see the bat vid on the news....too funny!

Have a great weekend.

We have many Rose of Sharon, which we love! They all came from our pink granny bush. But, now we have many colours! I must go look up taht commercial! Hugs!

I hope you've seen the bat video now. :-)

I'm sure most families have relatives like this. In my case, it's my small and limited immediate family that's like this. And Dad wonders why I have no interest in contacting my first cousins, whom I've not seen in almost 50 years. *rolling my eyes* He and my uncle can't think we're a "family", then not share pertinent details, then wonder why we're all so distant, both geographically and emotionally.

Not my rose of Sharon, but there are lots around. So pretty!

Thanks, I hope the pet sitter turns out to be reliable too.

The car ad is beyond dumb, but I can't help what strikes me funny. The car ad I can't stand is one that should be funny: the man and woman who take their cars out to play, like an off-leash dog park, only it's a driver-free car park. I can't stand that one, for some reason.

Anyway, have a marvellous holiday! Be safe, have fun!

Skip the commercial, but check that bat link. :-D

I've been known to giggle at stupid commericals too. :) Hope you get good vibes from the new cat sitter. I know it's stressful leaving your furbabies with someone you don't know but she'll fall in love with your boys and treats them right. How could she not? Anticipation of a vacation is almost has exciting as the vacation itself! Hope the next two weeks go by quickly!
I have not seen that Midas commercial. I really need to watch more tv :)
Sounds like you are going to have a nice time off. I hope it goes well with the pet sitter situation.
Your boys look terrific, as always!
Sorry to hear about your aunt. Sending her good thoughts.

Thanks! Well, the last sitter didn't follow instructions re: Nicki's Flovent, and was careless overall, no attention to small details. I miss our first pet sitter, who's long gone, sadly. She had a lovely, gentle nature and she was on the ball.
Kea said…
No, you really don't need to watch more TV. I have it on for our local news, then Global news, and it's usually during the local stuff that they run the commercial here.

I hope your aunt's surgery went well and that she has a swift and trouble-free recovery. It must have been very surprising to learn of her difficulties. Let's hope they end here.

The flower is beautiful, the white petals looking so delicate.

From what I've heard, she's doing well. Hard to think of her as my "aunt," though I suppose technically she is. She speaks no English, and I speak no Italian, so it's not like I've ever been able to communicate with her, except through my uncle.
