The past couple of weeks

The past couple of weeks weren't as fun or adventurous as the two days with Robin, but here's a run down just the same.

This is Moose, a 4.5 month old St. Bernard. He belongs with the human, who was picking up junk two units down from me.
Moose was...enthusiastic in his greeting. Translation: He jumped all over me, practically bowled me over.
A bit of grooming that didn't lead to a tussle...Derry was too lazy to bother.
I've been seeing a balloon floating up each evening for a while now. Finally was able to grab a camera in time and snap a couple of pics. Turns out it's Carla's human flying it; he's attached it to a child's plastic fishing rod. (He's a bit of an odd duck, I can't put my finger on it. Not intellectually challenged per se; he owns the unit, drives a car, works. But something is quite different about him. Of course, I'm rather an odd duck in my own ways too!)
Frontenac County Courthouse in the morning light, one morning on the way to work. I walked from the downtown transfer point, needed to get my body moving.
I never can remember the name of the shrub, but it's always so glorious in the fall.
Looking up in the courtyard outside my office building.
 Late-blooming rose.
Catnip for Derry. I had to put Nicki in the house because nip makes him nasty, and he had Derry cornered at one point, poor Derry hissing for all he was worth. Once Nicki was out of the picture, Derry had a go.
 What an expression! LOL.
Less entertaining, but more productive: A year and a half after Robin's husband, Chuck, did my downstairs baseboard trim, I finally got around to painting it. Six hours on Sunday October 15th from start to finish (taping, painting two coats, cleaning everything up), long hours of being hunched over and sometimes getting more paint on me than on the trim. But I got it done, at last.

A quick snapshot of part of the living area. I had to do everything, from the entryway and hall closet right through to the back wall.
All that tape going into landfill. I'm a very messy painter, not at all neat, and have to tape everything off.
BTW, I didn't give a thought to what 6 hours of stooping over and squatting would do to my out-of-shape body, but let's just say moving was difficult on Monday and Tuesday!

The week wound down with continued glorious weather, and a few late blooms:
That's how things have looked here since early October. It's crazy, how quickly this month is passing. I hope everyone is doing well!

Peace.

Well done on the painting. It takes me a long time to get started on anything that needs doing of that sort, and then I get it done all in one burst. And usually pay for it, like you.

I love the nature photographs. My favourite is the sky through the trees. It makes me think there is no town, no other people, just a clearing in the woods. Very nice.

That courtyard between buildings is quite pretty, though often busy. There's another courtyard nearby that feels more secluded, though that's an illusion too. It's a lovely campus, lots of green, benches to sit, etc.

Painting the trim is always the hardest and most time consuming part. Well done knocking it all out in one shot, Kim; I can well imagine the aches and pains after being stooped over for 6 hours.

Derry's catnip expression made me smile so big, and I love all of your nature photos. What's up with your neighbour with the balloon? At least we know it won't get stuck on a high tension wire, or land in the water (only to be ingested by an animal).

Hugs to you, and scritches the boys!

It's funny how grooming leads to tussles with some kitties. Annie and Pierrot don't groom each other but they're my only kitties that never do that. Annie would never stand for such a thing. I love how Derry was just too lazy. :) I had a kitty who was sweetness personified, but he turned into a scary monster on nip.

Your "nature" photos are so pretty. I love the fall colors.

Yes, that balloon flying is a bit odd, but to each his own. You are amazing painting the trim!

Job well done! I do know of the discomfort you talk about, this old body of mine resists too!
Love all the nature and cats photos. The one of the rose with sunlight back lit was really nice as was the one looking up into the trees.

I don't know about the neighbour, he really is odd, but harmless. Let's hope any balloons he flies remain harmless too.

It was an act of desperation, to paint the trim. LOL. Well, not quite, but it's just one of the many things that needs to get done before I can really think about selling and moving on.

I find Derry less active these days, perhaps partly because of age, partly because of all the excess weight. I certainly hope it's nothing more than that. He still does start tussles with Nicki, usually daily, though the tussles are briefer than they used to be.

As for fall colours, it's hard to find any! I would say 95% of the trees are going from green to crispy brown and falling off. The few species that are turning aren't nearly as vibrant as they would be normally. Maybe last year's drought and this year's over-abundance of water (rain) has stressed them too much.

Thanks! It took several days in all for the soreness from painting to go away. Oh, am I out of shape! :-D

We still have quite a few blooms around in this region, because of the abnormally warm fall temps. Nice to see. I'd be happy to extend this weather right through to March...then start spring, if we could!

That Derry face! What a LOOK! Loved the photos. I see you have Indian Blanket there complete with bee.

Derry probably had nip stuck to the roof of his mouth there or something. ;-)

"Indian Blanket," is that what it is? I didn't know the name! Was walking home after work and spied the flower in someone's front garden, bordering the sidewalk.

Yikes, I'm sure I wouldn't be moving after six hours of painting for a least a week. Well done!

Love the late blooming flowers. I don't know the name of the bush either, but my mom had something similar that she called a burning bush because of the bright red leaves.

None of my cats go crazy over nip, though they enjoy licking it up. No tussles here over nip, just for no other reason than because someone looked at the other one.

Have a wonderful week!
Eileen
Moose reminds us of Fenris, the flowers are lovely and you did a great job on the trim.

It didn't take my body a week to recover, but it did take several days. I remember the days when I could do that and more and have only minor aches and pains for a couple of days. LOL.

Thanks for stopping by; have a great week!

Hi Kim, wonderful photos, where to begin! What a sweet dog! And he is only 4.5 months old? He will be huge.
Love all the kitty photos, the boys look great.
The flower photos are lovely, especially the white iris.
Looking forward to seeing you and the boys on Sunday!

Well, Derry's licked a lot of things, but I don't think I've ever seen him lick a rock. :-P
Kea said…
Yes, Moose will be almost the size of a real moose. LOL. Okay, not quite, but large enough for a young child to ride. :-D

I was surprised to see the iris blooming, and the plant had 2 buds as well. I'm loving this warm, extended fall, but it seems weird all the same. I hope the forecasts for a snowier and colder winter than normal are wrong, big time!

That's life, isn't it? Glorious and absurd, all together in a crazy mix. :-)

I hear you about the aftermath on the body of house projects, I'm feeling that more and more. Fun to see Derry enjoying some nip!
