Close Encounters
"John Bellen", caretaker to a handful cats, including foster Parker, has a recent post about Parker's encounter (inside) with two ferals eating (outside).
Nicki also had an encounter on Saturday, though I couldn't see with what. I presume another cat, from his reaction:

Nicki sat on the step for a long time, and I could see his entire body trembling, but he continually refused to come inside. I don't recall seeing Nicki quiver like that, for so long after an encounter. I wonder if it was with the hated Carla (one of the neighbourhood cats and long-time nemesis) or with someone else.
Fortunately for Derry sake, he (Derry) was inside at the time, and I kept him in with me until Nicki finally calmed down and wanted back into the house. (Nicki is well-known to turn his aggression onto Derry and fight viciously.)
With temperatures warming* and the boys (presumably) spending more time outside in the late afternoons this week (once I'm home from work), I'll have to be on guard for similar encounters--mostly to keep Derry safe!
*I don't know if we actually will have an early spring, but I heard a robin singing his heart out this morning, while waiting for the bus. I heard another while walking from the bus stop to the office! The sweetest morning sound ever. :-)
Peace.

And I am looking forward to hearing a robin in the early morning sun...
I know this isn't the same thing, but Pierrot was out on the balcony the other day and a loud bird was making a lot of noise. I could not distract Pierrot for anything. He was frozen. I poked at him and even shut the door, which he absolutely hates, and he didn't blink or even notice.
