Thursday Thoughts

My #1 thought for today is that I'd like the snow to stop and for Spring to hurry up and get here!

The view heading into my building this morning (click to enlarge and easily scroll through):

This was the view last Friday March 2nd, strangely similar to today's view:

The in-between days:

I have seen things sprouting in protected sunny spots, including 2 lone snowdrops yesterday. The robins are back in abundance and I even heard a red wing blackbird trilling away this morning, as I was walking to my bus stop. So Spring is trying her best; however, winter is being a bit obstreperous at the moment, typical "old man" that he is.  :-)

Other thoughts, in this case Nicki-related:

Since he's still been having asthma attacks (most recently on March 1 or 2, after 10 days of being attack-free) I'm going to try him on Terbutaline (oral bronchodilator) in conjunction with the Flovent. It's a common oral bronchodilator, though not without side effects (increased heart rate, muscle twitching, general spaciness or nervousness, mostly at higher doses). The vet is fine with starting at a low dose to see how Nicki responds, and is having the Terb compounded into a tastier chicken-flavoured liquid for me. I'm not sure how long that will take; in the meantime, Nicki seems to be his usual busy and silly self.

However, this just adds another layer of complication to the whole med and supplement routine I have for them both, and adds another thing for me to fuss over when I'm away and the boys are in the care of a pet sitter.

Speaking of pet sitters, I think I've already mentioned that I'm booked for a short trip to Halifax in June, to spend a few days with Mom. Everyone knows how scared I am to fly, but maybe this time I'll make it without bawling when they call for boarding and through all the take-offs. Maybe I'll bawl over the stress of leaving the boys instead.

This about sums it up:

I'll leave you with a few recent quotes/images from TinyBuddha.com:

Peace.

I'm hoping that you get sunshine and no more snow... soon. We're pretty nice at the moment and weatherman says we may get up to 80 F on Saturday. BTW, did the bald spot on Nicki go away?

You could have kept the snow to yourself. :-)

I find March tough to get through: On the cusp of spring, but not quite done with the dreary winter weather yet.

As for Nicki...we'll find out soon enough.

80F...you could spare a bit of heat for us. :-)

No, Nicki's bald spot still is there and sometimes when I peer at it I think it's even a bit bigger.

Even in sunny Florida we are having a mini-freeze tonight. But just close your eyes and poof Sunday is going to be 80. Go figure -- but this is Florida. Lovely photos of the boys!

Close my eyes and poof! our Sunday is going to be 36F. LOL.

And mine will be low temps and rain. Snow today...just a dusting. My poor daffodils.

I love the pictures of your beautiful happy boys. I sure hope the medication will work for Nicki without any side effects. I know how you feel about leaving them. By the way, have you ever considered a small dose of Xanax (whatever the generic is) for just when you fly?

I find from reading about others' cats and from experiences here in my household that caring for cats with health conditions is rarely static. I wonder if there is ever an instance where we can settle on one thing that works. Perhaps it's natural that as the body gets used to something or changes without regard to that treatment, how we treat the condition must change. In any case, I hope Nicki will benefit from this new medicine.

As for your stress - whether because of flying or leaving the boys for a few days - I think it will diminish once spring arrives. Sunshine and warmth have that effect on people. It will probably help Nicki, too.

Yikes! You're pretty far south, I wouldn't have expected you'd have any snow at this time of year. Your daffodils will be battered, but they're pretty hardy. :-)

I had taken Ativan when I flew in 2015 and it did zilch. Maybe something else would help!

No, managing health conditions most likely isn't static, particularly as we all get older, I suspect. Nicki's never managed more than 3 months without an attack since he started on the Flovent, and of course this winter has been especially challenging for him (for many of us). I'm not sure Nicki will tolerate the terb, but I'll find out.

As for sunshine and warmth...they seem so distant right now, but I know Spring is on her way. Can't wait! :-)

Well, at least the snow is pretty! :) I'm not sure if we've even had an inch of snow this year which has been nice. Hopefully we get more rain though or it's going to be a dry summer. I hope the new combination helps Nicki's attacks. Isabella is having fewer of them thankfully. Keep us posted on how he's doing!
we have the same white crap!! Hoping things for Nicki get straightened out, poor, sweet little cutie!

Wonderful photos of the boys! Fingers crossed the new meds help Nicki. I can't offer any sage words on flying. I hate it as much as you do! I take a Gravol and hope for the best. Love the quotes especially the one about the forest.
Have a good weekend!

Halifax, NS (where Mom is) has had very little snow this year too, which is NOT typical for them. You guys don't get much snow anyway, on the west coast. Like Dad and his wife in the greater Vancouver (BC) area. Weather patterns are crazy in recent years.

Anyway, I'm glad Isabella is having fewer attacks. I'm sure a lot of it is winter dryness, at least here.

I want the white crap to disappear now. Winter started early here, December was mostly record-setting cold, we had a ton of snow...it's time for some warmth, green grass and flowers!

The vet has been giving me mixed instructions (it's a 2x per day med, then he said I could use it as needed...what the heck?). Anyway, it's not in yet, it'll be sometime this coming week. Our vet is off for March break (young family), so I'll muddle along on my own. :-)
