Catching up

A lot was packed into last week: our former director's official retirement on the 23rd, plus an informal get-together on the 27th after work at a downtown pub (just his immediate staff and our new director), two hours in the dentist's chair for me last Tuesday, getting a temporary crown (I don't freeze properly, it took a lot of needles), plus a doctor's appointment last Thursday.

The work week in itself was emotionally exhausting, and I was very surprised, when I got home on Friday, to have a sudden outpouring of anger over how things had gone over the past six+ years since our department merged with the other. I guess that, subconsciously, I wouldn't allow myself to experience the depth of emotion while he still was here. And in the end, he's human, he did the best he could under the circumstances, and I know this intellectually. However, I think it will take a bit of time for me process my negative emotions and forgive my former boss, to make peace with it all.

Still, today it's "A New Hope" for us all.  :-)

Geese pics snapped on the 22nd, I think.
Because last couple of weeks were so busy and so exhausting, I missed acknowledging angel Chumley's 17th "gotcha day", on the 21st.

I have so few photos of him, which makes me feel a bit sad. Ditto for angel Annie, and it's the reason I take a ridiculous number of photos of Nicki and Derry.

Anyway, spring finally has sprung here, even though the temps still are significantly cooler than average. But the flowers survived the ice storm a couple of weeks ago and are starting to bloom.
The boys seem okay so far, knock on wood. Derry goes for his vet appointment Wednesday afternoon--he needs a full checkup, and I'll get a x-ray done for him too, to see if there's anything amiss (like Nicki's kidney stones!), plus blood work and if possible, a urine analysis. I know it's time for a dental, as it's been three years, though I'd like to hold off until after I'm back from the Halifax trip in June.
Nicki will be very relieved he's not the one being stuffed in the carrier this time!
That about covers it, or at least the main points. I'm wishing everyone a great week!

Peace.

Thanks, Debra. Nick really isn't at all, though sometimes a snapshot will come out half-decently. Derry IS photogenic, however -- must be that sweet face. :-)
K; in one way or another, work affects us all more than we would really like to admit; we spend far too much time at the office for it not to....I think back about a former boss and what he "left us with" when he quit and swore I'd punch him if I ever saw him again !!

Yes, work impacts us, whether we realize it or not. I wouldn't punch my former boss, he was good in so many ways for the years before the merger. But I might make a face at him right now. LOL.

Poor little (not so "little") bear (Derry), he'll blow the rest of his winter coat from the stress of it all on Wednesday! Maybe he'll look a tiny bit slimmer afterward. LOL.

Hope your next few days/weeks are better! Love the pics! And I hope that spring is finally there to stay for you...

Sorry you now have bad feelings about the last several years at your job. I hope you're able to work through it so you don't carry it inside any longer. Yeah, I know, easier said than done because I went through the same thing. Love the pics today! Sending purrs as you remember Chumley. Purrs for Derry's vet visit too!
you do not take a ridiculous amount of photos of the boys! I love them! I am like you at the dentist (which you know), it takes A LOT to numb me too! (((hugs))) about Angel Chumley xoxo
You have had such a busy, hectic time. Sometimes our emotions catch up with us after the fact.
Love your photos. I wonder if taking photos helps us to slow down and pay attention to all the beauty that is around us. Photography can also help us to remember the good things even if they are "small".
Angel Chumley is a beauty ♥
Hope the boy's vet visit goes well.

I so agree that the workplace can be the cause of much stress and frustration. I'm sorry you are working in such an environment...would that I could, I'd wave a magic wand and make it all go away....for both of us.

Handsome boys! Chumley too....look at all the floof! I love the photos of the geese. They are here too though I haven't made it down to the park. No spring flowers yet in my yard, though a friend has day lilies popping up in hers.

Hope the rest of the week is less stressful. Take care of yourself!

Thanks! I think spring IS here to stay...it was 19C here yesterday; woohoo!

Thanks for the purrs for Derry (and me too). As for work, things started improving at the end of January as we shifted space within the same suite and the other unit moved to the opposite end. LOL. They have a couple of very loud staff members, one of whom talks incessantly about herself and the other who rants about everything. It's a LOT better with them away from my cubicle, believe me. :-P

I dunno, Caren, I have tens of thousands of snapshots, mostly of the cats. LOL.

Absolutely taking pics slows me down...I pay attention to flowers and critters anyway, but when I'm taking pics I'm in the present moment, my "ego" falls away and I'm in the "zone", I guess you would say. I love it! :-)

We all have been working in a toxic environment, but this past winter's shuffle of space (the other unit at the opposite end of the suite) has helped me tremendously, and our new director truly is fantastic, very caring. I *hope* this is the beginning of better work days!

SO glad that the rain and yuks have stopped and the Spring flowers are showing. AND the Canada Geese too. :-) Chumley was truly beautiful. I don't have many of Robin, the Matriarch of the family way back in the 80's and 90's. I too have a ridiculous amount of Katie and almost as much of Admiral.

I have been through some primo stress in the work environment too. When unkind folks are in charge or uncaring ones, many suffer.

I know how you feel about having few photos of Annie and Chumley. I keep going over the same ones of Tungsten. Once in a while I find one that I'd almost forgotten, but I know most of them very well by now.

I have a new boss, too, the salesman who bought the old boss's company. My old boss was a decent enough person, but had no concept of employee relations, thought morale was something you could order people to have and believed simply telling someone to work harder would achieve the desired results. At his retirement party, I had to bear all the compliments said about him, thinking that it was quite untrue. But then, making him feel bad at that point would have served no purpose. I don't think things will improve under the new boss, however.

Poor Derry: he doesn't know what awaits him tomorrow. I wish him the best and that he recovers from his visit to the hospital quickly.

Thanks for stopping by, Carole! I think the norm is to have an uncaring boss or administration..it's all about the numbers and the dollars, not many are concerned with the health and well-being of staff. Happily, our new director is! :-)

I didn't realize your boss had retired...oh, yes, that must have been "fun". I hope things DO improve under the new owner, because it's hellish to have to spend so much of one's life in a toxic environment. Fingers crossed!

As for my not-so-little Smoochy Bear...I feel badly for him, and am crossing my own fingers that all goes well. I do have concerns about possibly kidney deterioration and/or diabetes with him too, and his excess weight isn't helping. He's like me, though: it doesn't take much to gain the pounds and it's oh so hard to get them off.

I'm actually glad you're in touch with those feelings about how things went down at your work, Kim. You'll sort them out in time, when it's time. Just good to acknowledge them, though.

How did Derry's appointment go?
Kea said…
It is, and frankly, I feel better even now. We're all just doing our thing, work keeps truckin' along. Goes to show no one is indispensable, no matter what their role.

As for Derry...He certainly didn't have fun. LOL. I'm waiting for his test results, will post after I get them.
