I refuse to shovel

Worst. April. Weather. Ever.

The ice pellets and freezing rain continue. We're hunkered down inside for the second consecutive day, which is almost unprecedented for me.

Weather aside, Mr. Brat (Nicki) had quite the adventure early yesterday AM.

Juncos in the back space yesterday afternoon.
Just before 6 AM I heard a faint, plaintive meow, the kind that means someone's in trouble, trapped in a bureau drawer or some such. I went hunting for Nicki, and it turned out that he had gotten behind the old bedspread I had tucked around the box spring propped up in the spare room (I'd thought to keep it and just get another mattress, use it for a guest bed, now that I have my new platform bed). Not only behind the bedspread, but he'd gotten himself inside the box spring itself (the underside) and was wedged up in the springs. He was NOT happy! With some help from me he did manage to extricate himself, and while he was fine, he just about gave me heart failure. At 6:12 AM yesterday I was hauling the now-ruined box spring into the garage, for junk pick up at a later date.

Brat!

Mr. or Ms. Squirrel looking a bit unkempt. Pic snapped yesterday.
Chip, the diabetic kitty who lives at my vet clinic. Look at those wild whiskers!
Morning sky on April 6, snapped while I was heading to the bus stop.
Finally, how the boys spent most of yesterday afternoon.
This also is how they're spending most of today too, only curled up downstairs instead. They have the right idea, I think I'll join them!  :-)

Peace.

The boys have the right idea in that last photo!
Nicki, stop getting into shenanigans....or box springs. Either one is bad =)
I love the photo of your junco!
We closed 2 1/2 hour early because of the weather. Unheard of!
Stay cozy.

I think the boys have the right idea, Kim... and you SHOULD join them!
We ,well mum , refuses to shovel too.
We usually have rain after any snow so she lets the rain move the snow.
Heaven knows we have gotten a lot of rain :/
Oh Nicki ! Cats do like to have fun ;)

I agree with the boys, best way to deal with the storm. I just can’t believe how awful this weather is, not sure if we will even get out tomorrow. Stay safe and warm.

OH I feel so badly for you three. Here it just won't quit the chilly rain. But that is better than snow. Maybe this is the last hurrah?

Good for you, joining Nicki and Derry inside and warm, Kim. This crappy weather is unbelievable ... are we ever going to get spring???

Poor Nicki. It's episodes such as that that make me realise that most house-cats need humans. I think of mine and know that none of them would survive outside, except maybe Renn, and perhaps Cammie. I'm glad Nicki was all right; just remember that it takes imagination to get into such predicaments.

I've heard about the ice-strom hitting your part of the country. I think they must be worse than snowstorm, and more dangerous. Not pleasant at all. I hope there are high temperatures on their way to melt whatever you are receiving. I hope tomorrow's journey to and from work is free from hazards.

Just about everything was closed here too, including the "big" mall, church services, etc. Transit was running, though. It's actually worse this AM (Monday), so getting to work will be "fun".

Ha, I did! :-)

I know you guys have had a ton of rain, I always get the weather update when I talk to Mom. LOL. Here's to that elusive sunshine!

I thought it would be slush this morning (early Monday), but it's still freezing rain out there and looks worse right now than it did even yesterday. :-O

The "last hurrah" is a month to six weeks late this year. :-/

I think that we're going to bypass spring...seriously. Straight from winter into summer...maybe in June???

Essentially it was my fault for leaving the box spring in the house. Derry already had torn the underside of it up (he liked to hang out under my bed), so there were ready-made holes. Nicki just enlarged them. I don't know why it didn't occur to me he'd get himself behind the old bedspread and get into the springs. I mean, it's Nicki. My white hair surely must be because of him!

Yes, ice storms are worse than snowstorms, you have no traction when it's freezing rain. It's worse this AM than it was yesterday, so getting to work will be "fun".

Oh dear Nicki! Our furkids will give us a heart attack just to see if we're up to snuff I guess. 3 of mine were outside the front door as I was feeding Ginger (outdoor kitty) and I had to chase two of them down. Oh my IT WAS THE BIG ONE (heart attack). 3 of them outside!
Oh, Nicki, you are one lucky mancat that your mom wasn't off on holiday and was able to rescue you! hehehe!

That's what I thought! :-O

Geez, that's brilliant. Simple, cost-effective, and brilliant!
we had the same damn ice storm for two days. This is insane!

We're glad Nicki is okay! We've had rain, rain and more rain which I suppose is better than snow but I'm ready for spring to return and stay this time. Love the photos today!

Oh, will this winter of our discontent ever end? There is a meme on Facebook that suggest this is day 95 of January....it certainly feels that way. Though I'd never trade the bit of snow and rain we're getting for the ice storm!

Nicki and Derry definitely have the right idea - staying indoors in the wicked weather is the best idea. My old box spring and mattress are in the basement, just waiting to be cleared out sometime this spring but the cats love to play on them as well. So far, we've been lucky, no one has gotten in and can't get out. But if someone goes missing, I'll check there. Nicki, I hope none of mine follow your example.

Stay safe and warm!

Your post makes me smile. I hear that cry often from Miss Pops as she gets herself trapped too. It only seems to happen at 1am or 6am at our house too.

I am sorry that spring has not sprung for you, I hope it is not too far off.

The boys sure had the right idea snoozing the day away Sunday. I was out walking this morning and there was a whiff of Spring in the air so it is coming! Cats have a way of squishing in exactly where they are not supposed to go. Glad Nicki was alright.
Great photo of the Junco!

Ours hasn't even all gone yet! The weather forecast keeps teasing up with plus double digit temps (Celsius) next week. Huh. Seeing is believing!

Winter/early spring in most places seems to have been really lousy. We're all ready for spring sunshine, warmth and flowers!

I saw that meme posted on a Twitter feed, it being the 96th day of January. Well, today's the 98th day of January! The weather folks are teasing us with plus double digits next week--ha! I'll believe it when we have it!
Kea said…
All I could think, Julie, was what if that had happened while I was at work? I'm glad I was home!

Huh, I'll believe it when we have it, Robin. Tomorrow's supposed to be cold with mixed precip...again. I think everyone will feel so much better with sunshine and warmth!
