Some kitties got spoiled!

Here we are, heading into the last 4 days (weekend included) of my Christmas break. What the heck happened to the other 7 days?

The best part of Christmas was watching "some kitties" have fun with the goodies "Santa" brought them.

Christmas Eve I let them open one present: an inexpensive sheepskin I had ordered from Ikea, on sale to boot. I always swore I'd never buy a sheepskin--the poor sheep!--but it's "funny" what one will do for one's fur companions. Of course Nicki was the first to check it out.
You can just seen Derry, tentatively approaching, below.

This has been a hit. Most of the time I have it on my couch, sometimes the ottoman, and both boys have cuddled up on it in turn, nice and cosy.
Then late in the morning I let the boys have their presents from "Santa." (Note: I happen to know that Santa put catnip in the stocking, hence the reason Nicki, then finally Derry, had so much fun with the stocking itself!)

With apologies for the fuzzy pics; I was using my little p&s in sports mode, and the flash doesn't engage in that mode.

Derry and his new mouse, below. He chased that thing all over the main level.
Some kitties crashed in the afternoon, after all the excitement!

Then yesterday when I got home from errands, I found two deliveries on my step: a stair "condo" primarily for Nicki, ordered from Wayfair, and a heated pet blanket from Amazon.ca. (I've jumped on the heated bed band wagon, at last.)
The pet stair "condo" was a pre-Christmas sale, seemed like a good deal. It's actually quite heavy, 30 pounds, I think, and very sturdy (which is why I ordered it, I didn't want cardboard). I have it in the basement, in front of the stacked Rubbermaid containers that Nicki likes to sleep on. (I have thick blankets on top.)
Nicki doesn't seem to have difficulty getting up and down per se, but I've noticed that when he sleeps on the taller stack now, he'll take the easier way down--step onto the lower level first,  then to the floor. So I hope the steps will offer an even easier way of getting up and down, if he wants that. Both boys have been up and on them, of course, but I don't yet know if Nicki is choosing them as a way up to his sleeping spots.

The other item is the heated pet bed, below.
I have it on a stool in front of the patio door right now, and both boys have curled up there, though neither has stayed on it for hours.
I won't leave it plugged in, even on its lowest setting, while I'm out of the house, though. It probably would be fine, but I always think "what if," and won't take a chance something might happen. But they can enjoy warming their aging bones while I'm home, if they wish. They're not lacking cosy spots to curl up in!

Example: I found Derry in the guest room a day or two ago, below. Now, that's cosy!
So that's our Christmas wrap-up! (Uh, no pun intended.) I hope you've also had a nice holiday, that your fur family got spoiled a bit too.

Enjoy the remaining few days of 2018, and may 2019 be kind and merciful to us all.

Peace.

Your boys look very happy with their presents. I tried a sheepskin for Miss Pops but she hated it, so it got donated to some friends cats who love to sleep on it. I have been considering some steps too, as my girl has signs of arthritis in her back legs.

Enjoy the last days of your break. Mine has just begun, first morning waking up without an alarm.

Oh, lucky kitties! That's quite the haul, and very obviously much enjoyed. Sasha and Saku would feel hard done by if they knew.

Enjoy the rest of your time off!

I don't have kids or grandkids to spoil, though. :-)

I wonder why Poppy hated the sheepskin! Well, there's no figuring out our cats. Ha. I'm glad your friends' cats enjoy it, though.

Have a wonderful break! There's a lot to be said for still being in one's jammies at 6:30 AM, not dressed and out the door to catch a bus!
What pawsome presents! It is such a great thing to be loved kitties :)
You two scored big time!
Mum likes the stairs. Now that some cats are getting older jumping is not happening as much and stairs would make life a lot easier :)

oh Kim!!! These are DARLING! I have never seen kitties appreciate presents as much as your boys! And what great presents!! Cody said to tell you that he would like you to adopt him lol, my boys didn't get anything (other than from Cody's Secret Paws and that was for Cody, not Dakota), because they have too much. That sheepskin rug was brilliant! I noticed the "happy paws" I am with you about the heated pad, I wouldn't turn it on if I wasn't home either. So happy you all had a wonderful Christmas!!
My goodness! Those two had a lovely Christmas. If Winston and Emily saw this post they would feel hard done by :) I just bought them a bag of Temptations. That sheepskin rug is certainly well loved. Glad you had a nice Christmas!

What great gifts Nicki and Derry got! I really like that little tent (not sure what to call it). The sheepskin is clearly a big hit. Annie has a heated pad too. The stairs are a very nice idea, and even if he doesn’t use them now, they will probably be used at some point down the line. Enjoy the rest of your break! Time off always goes so quickly

Now that I'm getting older, I'd like a bungalow so I *don't* have stairs. LOL.

My "secret": add-on items when ordering other things on Amazon.ca. :-) Everything for the boys was very inexpensive, the stairs excepted. Even the pet bed was pretty good, there was a $10-off coupon to apply right away, which was great.

I remembered that Annie has a heated pad, and there's another blog I follow ("I Have Three Cats") and he has a heated bed for his crew. So I thought I'd give it a try. So far they've used it, but they prefer the sheepskin.

You have a little granddaughter to spoil now, Caren, I haven't anyone but the cats. :-)

Plus, the little toys were inexpensive, most were add-ons via Amazon.ca.

For myself, I got through the holiday. It was okay, I enjoyed the time with N & D, but I'm very glad it's over now.

OH I think Derry and Nicki got some wonderful presents from Santa (Human) this year. They were delighted with everything! Good choice Santa! :)

Great pics of the boys enjoying their gifts! Ours got some catnip mice (and probably have dozens under furniture elsewhere) , several balls (which we shared with some of the outside ferals), a huge catnip rat (which is adorable), and a small catnip filled 'something or other' that is also mint scented for their breath (Ghost likes that one). They also love lying in all the wrapping paper that is left around from the grandkids... (probably because it crinkles?)

Wow, the boys did pretty well out of Christmas, I must say. It's nice to have a generous 'Santa Claus' visit.

I think the steps are a good idea. As pets age, they either still try to do things they can't - and who will know when that moment comes - and hurt themselves, or simply stop doing it. Neither of those options is good. The steps will prove a hit. Four of mine use the steps at the foot of my bed (strangely, Cammie uses them only for descending, which you'd think would be the easier of the two actions involved...)
Kea said…
For the most part. Not everything got two paws up. That would be impossible, with cats. :-P
Kea said…
Ah, your cats got spoiled too! Lucky them!

Maybe the descending is a high-impact action, more pressure when landing? Or maybe it's just Cammie's way. :-)

Wow, Nicki and Derry got quite the haul of Christmas awesomeness! Those stairs are terrific, and we bet the boys will both come to use them. We have them here, and senior Gracie and youngster Ava use them all the time. The catnip in the stocking ... so funny (and adorable)!

Happy New Year, Kim, Nicki and Derry. Blessings and love!

OH Kim, you and the boys made the rest of my year and some of next! I loved the pictures. They were completely expressive of their fun and enjoyment and how much they love their Christmas presents. I haven't seen anything sweeter yet!!!

I think the impact hurts her little knees...so she is spared.

Well, I don't go up and down the stairs as easily as I used to, either (probably more related to my extra pounds!). Ha.

Happy New Year to you and Tracey, and Ava and Gracie too!

Thanks, Carole! I enjoy spoiling them, it brings me joy. :-)

Looks like you all had a very nice Christmas and Santa was certainly good to the boys!
