"Slip slidin' away"

Winter in this part of Ontario isn't quite what the song means, but hey, I'm just going with it. And the words are appropriate!

Below: The view from my bedroom when I got home yesterday afternoon. Our director let us go early, and a co-worker drove me (carefully and slowly) home.
It got worse from there, but we were lucky in that most of it fell as ice pellets, which are granular. So while everything has a coating of ice, it's not the sheer skating rink it could have become. Getting into work this morning was pretty straightforward, actually, no delays. I was smart enough to wear my ice grippers on my boots, though!

 

The trees looked pretty, their berries with a light coating of ice.

Still, you can see how messy things are, below. 

Anyone else other than me ready for Spring? If you're dealing with similar weather, stay safe!

ice is the worst; black ice even more so. I can remember coming up on ice while traveling north
one year, and it took 6 hours to make a journey that only should have taken 2 1/2 at best. when I

Man I hate ice more than anything. Living on the highest point of the town doesn't help. Many many MANY times had to call work and say if you want me, send someone. One time I fell on black ice thinking at 4:30 am that it was wet pavement. My knee will never get over the insult to it. I suffered several months, but had to go to work anyway.

Our gardens are drying out and there are forest fires in towns down south. We could do with some rain. You can keep your ice though.

Yes, technically we have to go to work too, as the university wouldn't close even in the case of catastrophe. (I might be exaggerating, but only slightly. Very slightly.) But if the roads ever are so bad that public transit can't run, then I would stay home, even at the cost of a vacation day. I work for the uni, I'm not dying for the uni.

I think I'd take our cold over your ice any day. We can bundle up (and for the most part I can stay home) but there is no getting around ice.

I sure hope winter lets loose soon, though for us spring is still a good 6 weeks to two months away. Take care!

Spring is 6 - 8 weeks away for us too, longer if we get another mid-April ice storm, like we did last year.

The weather has been awful lately, nothing worse than ice pellets and freezing rain, Lucky fir us we can now choose to stay home when this happens, the perks of being retired,

Ugh, ice is the worst! That sure was nice of your co-worker to drive you home in that mess. Yes ... so ready for Spring, even though overall it has not been so bad here this year. Hugs to you, and scritches to Nicki and Derry!

Those photos are pretty scary! We've had ice issues here too. At least I don't HAVE to get out in in like you. Thank goodness you have those ice grippers! And the coming week looks to be quite a mess with snow/rain/sleet. Looking forward to spring!

OH my! Well yesterday we had 86 ... 86 in February, yes a record. *sigh* Today a nor'easter. More nor'easter tomorrow and at least 20 degree temperature drop. We truly need at least one freeze to kill the mosquitoes. I hate those little blooksuckers....always something in each of our environments. Hope your ice melts quickly.

Ice can be pretty darn dangerous. We have intense cold (-31 degree windchill), which is also dangerous. I imagine automobile drivers would prefer the cold, but as I ride a bicycle there isn't much for me to choose between them.

I'm relieved you were allowed to leave work early AND you had a co-worker drive you home. I would rather walk home in a snow storm than try to walk in freezing rain. May I ask what kind of grips you have your boots? I got a pair of boot grips for Christmas but lost one on a recent walk in the park :( I liked your quote from Tiny Buddha about letting your weirdo light shine!

I meant to reply earlier...I have three different kinds of grippers: one pair are like crampons, one pair are snow trackers (not good for ice), and another pair are in-between, they have little spikey-things on the bottom, but not "hooks" like my heavy-duty pair have. Good for snow or light ice. I can't think of the brand names of any of them, I've had them all some years now.
