What else would I be doing on the May long weekend?

It's our long Victoria Day weekend in Canada, the start of the summer tourist season. So what else would I be doing but this?

Dear gods, I loathe painting. With every fibre of my being, and beyond any words in any human language.

This is the spare room adjacent to the master bedroom, and it had been the bright greeny-yellow you can see in the snapshot above for a long time. I'm in the process of slowly repainting the house in a completely neutral shade ("bleached linen" by Behr), and so help me god, once I'm done, I'm never painting in this house again.

Last year I had done one of the back spare rooms plus part of the upper hallway. This year it was the room above, and as I'd bought 3 gallons, I have plenty leftover to do something else--either the guest room (but probably I won't) or the main level hall closet and hallway (I'm leaning to this).

There was a time when I would paint and then have a beer, hard cider or glass of wine to celebrate finishing; now I pop Ibuprofen to "celebrate" completing the job.

Luckily for me, the boys were not inclined to help with the painting, and they spent the time either out in the garden or asleep elsewhere in the house.

I picked up a few plants at a couple of garden centres too, just one perennial and six annuals, and popped those into the garden this afternoon. It remains to be seen whether they take or if I have to move them. I lost a perennial I had planted last spring, though I can't say if that was from our long, hard winter or from putting the plant in the wrong spot (or other error on my part).

I'm not buying any hanging baskets this year, as they don't seem to last through the summer, and I'm not putting anything out front for the first time since I've lived here. I wasn't going to bother with anything in the back space, but of course I succumbed to a bit of temptation.

I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow, with my one remaining day. I have some house chores to do, and I need to get things back together in that spare room I just painted. Beyond that, I'll see. I might struggle to roll out of bed tomorrow. LOL.

I'll leave you with some pics from this past week, most snapped around campus at lunch times. The rabbit was on the way home on Wednesday, and the full moon pic was from yesterday morning. (I think the full moon explains why my energy was so "off" this past week. That's my theory, anyway!)

Peace.

Mum says you are energetic. She painted this place a good while ago and shares your opinion.
The place is a winterized cottage with tongue and groove paneling.Painting took forever!
Now, she is cleaning, trying to get rid of years of stuff.
Good thing we are not on that list!

Such lovely photos, Kim. I'm always amazed by how industrious you are! Please remember to get a little R and R in this long weekend. Happy Victoria Day to you, Nicki and Derry! XO

I don't blame you a bit for hating painting. I am not a fixer-upper type of person. Red Green would be disappointed in me. ("If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy." By his formula, by goodness, I'd better be handsome!) Doing things like that is one of the things I don't miss about owning a house. But, if you do sell your home at some point, this will pay off. Neutral (even "bleached linen"!) is better than the yellowy green, I think, and will appeal to most people more. Your pictures of flowers and nature are, however, more peaceful and relaxing.

You guys have no worries, your mum definitely wouldn't ever declutter YOU. But I'd keep an eye on my "stuff," if I were you. :-D

I rounded up more stuff for donations too, first thing Saturday morning before I headed out for paint. I already was hurting after hauling all that stuff around, never mind the painting.

Okay, I admit it publicly: I'm a thrift-store shopaholic. (Like that's something you didn't know?)

Except for the house chores, I probably will take the day "off." I've thought about starting in with the painting downstairs, but I think two days is enough. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak. LOL.

I remember the Red Green show, loved it. I tell Nicki quite often (since he's the "busy" boy) that he's lucky I find him handsome in his kitty way, because he's certainly not handy!

I would like to own a two-bedroom detached bungalow with a lovely, private yard...and be able to afford to hire people to do the work and the landscaping. LOL.

LIke John I don't blame you for hating painting. I don't like doing these type things either. Get this for 20 years I have lived with the way the woman who lived in my house now had painted the trim on the vanity in the bathroom. It was get this -- orange. Yes, I lived with orange cabinets. So finally I decided to paint it a neutral gray. Let me tell you I got one cabinet door off and I didn't think I would be able to get it back on.So I ended up just taping everything off and painting around the doors. MUCH easier one way but a lot more difficult another. This did cure me of wanting to update the natural wood cabinets in the other two baths though. I have to work up enough energy to do the front double door, and that will now probably wait until fall. Oh yes, these things are such fun.
I'm not a big fan of painting either; primarily because I'm too critical of myself
and I get the job done only to find 100 things "wrong" ) enjoy the last day off work !!

N doodz...ya had de rite eye dea all rite N ya noe; if that bass terd hare getz neer

Ugh! Painting! I have painting to do but I'm using Lexi as an excuse not to do it since there's really no way to paint with her around. Hope you got it all done painlessly though! Love the pics of the boys! Your garden is going to be pretty! I enjoy seeing your photos from your neck of the woods!

I missed this post...it ended up in my spam folder. Darn e-mail provider!

Anyway I'm not a fan of painting either, yet in my old house I enjoyed it. That's what 10-15 years of again will do a person, I guess.

It was a definitely a productive weekend and your photos are gorgeous as always.
