Wrapping up the week
Whew, we're cooking now, in the middle of a heat wave with temps feeling like they're in the high 30s/40C (or 100+F). I'm so glad I had central air put in back in April 2017!
You'll be happy to know that Derry is going outside again, though episodes of his twitching skin and freaking out do persist, though are of shorter duration. I ignore him now, except to check his fur when I can.
Nicki's okay too, eating well but fur and bone. He's lost so much weight, yet all his blood tests, including his T4 for hyperthyroidism, come back just fine. I even had him de-wormed in May, based on a post that Connie over at Tails From The Foster Kittens had done ages ago about one of her own cats. So I'm stumped. The only other thing I can think of is cancer, but would it take so long to be evident? Nothing showed up on his last x-ray in June, not that the vet (not our regular vet) reported to me, at any rate. Malabsorption of nutrients? Should I ask about a B12 shot when I take him in again in September for his anal glands? His weight loss has been over the past 1.5 or 2 years, but I really notice it now, and even a friend commented on it when she and her husband came to visit at the end of June, that he'd lost weight since she'd last seen him in February.
Nicki will be 13 in October, so he's not "ancient", but he is immune-compromised, so maybe this is his just own natural aging? I know we all age at different rates, based on our genetics and on environmental factors. Frankly, I've been expecting him to die for the past three years, but so far he's surprised me. I hope he continues to surprise me!
As for the work week, it can be summed up by my state of mind each day: cranky, cranky, cranky, cranky, okay. I chalk up four days of surliness to the full moon that occurred on Tuesday, because I'm not usually that out of sorts for so many consecutive days. (Perhaps working on my most despised annual project also had something to do with my mood!)
Oh, there's a "new" neighbourhood cat, definitely unneutered and possibly homeless. The boys were fixated on something two nights ago, so I went out to have a look.
He wouldn't come near, of course, trotted off to the underbrush and trees behind the adjoining unit.
Anyway, I'll leave you with pics from early last Sunday morning, downtown at the marina and waterfront park. Even at 8:30 AM it was hot, with plenty of tourists out. (I was killing time before errands.)
You can see some of the docks under water, below. The lake levels are the highest they've ever been.
Momma Goose with her babies. Dad was out of the frame behind them all.
The same family. These four goslings were the only ones there.
Flowers on campus starting to bloom.
Everyone take care and keep cool, or warm, as the case may be.
Peace.

Sad that the neighbourhood cat is on his own. It so annoys me when people think they can just dump their unwanted pets.
Love all the photos! The marina is lovely as are the flowers. I would think the batch of goslings are late. It's hard to tell the young ones from the adults here at the nearby pond.
Have a great weekend!

As for the goslings, someone suggested to me that they're a second clutch. That would make sense!
Sorry that Nicki's weight loss is still such a mystery. In any case, we, too, hope he keeps on surprising you!
Your photographs are wonderful, Kim. The one of the momma goose and babies walking made me smile. Thank you for that.
Hugs to you, and scritches to Nicki and Derry!
Love your photos, as always. Stay cool!
As long as he is eating that is good.
We are having the hots this weekend and we are not used to it!
