Another weekend, another winter storm

Sleet, pouring rain, snow...we had it all. Though we managed to escape the freezing rain that other areas had, a small mercy. Even so, on Saturday there were lots of accidents in the city and on the highway, including a transit bus that slid off into the ditch (with people aboard) out in the west end. As far as I know, everyone was fine.

The view Saturday afternoon from one of my upstairs back windows is the first pic, below.

For those who haven't seen my tiny back space, you might notice something odd attached to my fence. (Click to enlarge the pic.) I had an addition built in 2010 designed to prevent Nicki from escaping. Tricky Nicki was my "Houdini" and he had gotten out of the back space a few times prior, in spite of the home-made fence additions my dad and I had done years ago. You can see the frame of the addition, and that's greenhouse roofing attached to it at an angle. It has worked very well through the years at allowing the cats to go out into the garden, yet keep them safely contained.

Below, the "exciting" view from the master bedroom window, also Saturday afternoon.

I did go out for 2 - 3 hours both Saturday and Sunday mornings, but most of the weekend was spent indoors, puttering around, or in Derry's case, curled up napping.  :-)

So there's nothing exciting here (that's probably a good thing) to relate.

Oh, did I post an update on my roof situation? The president of the property management company finally updated me last week (it was a challenge trying to reach him, he'd been out of town and then, legitimately, in day-long meetings). The roof, and I quote, "...is in need of a substantial repair or replacement...." and it will be done first thing in early spring, or sooner if we get a stretch of good weather.

I was struck by the word "substantial," and only hope they'll do it properly this time. (It was done, badly, 12+ years ago, I think.) I will have my bathroom fan vented to the outside as well, as the fan just goes up into the attic insulation and doesn't vent anywhere, which is why I don't bother to use it. (There is no window in the bathroom, either.) Gotta love these cheap, crappy 1980s builds....(Or crappy builds of any year/decade, it all seems to be the same lack of quality, unless you strike it lucky with a particular contractor.)

Also last week, I had a junk removal company come in after work to give me an estimate on removing the crap in the garage. I had hoped they would be able to take the items for donation (on the right) as well as the junk, but the estimate was too high, well beyond what I had budgeted. So I just had them take everything on the left.

There was a lot of cardboard from flat-pack furniture (I love you, Ikea!!). Usually I cut that stuff up myself, but too much time had passed and I was just too lazy. (This is 2+ years' worth, below.)

There also were a couple of cat trees, one of them 6-ft and still in great shape, good for donation, the other definitely junk. And a brand new 8x10 area rug (still in plastic) which had been a duplicate from Wayfair a few years ago (long story).

So now I have room for more donations, and I will call a local charity in the spring, when the weather is good, to have them come and pick up everything leftover, plus anything new I haul out of the house.

Those of you who have read my blog for a while know I love, love, love decluttering! I'm running out of big stuff to get rid of, at least until I move (whenever that might be). But there's no end to the little stuff to be disposed of. It's more a matter of my not tossing or donating something I might want in 6 months time...which happens more often than I care to admit, as it did at Christmas-time, when I was looking for household extension cords. Oops.

Anyway, I'm already bagging up blankets and clothing, costume jewelry, etc., and I'll keep at that for a while. It's a never-ending process. Anyone need someone ruthless to come in and get rid of stuff?  :-)

I'll leave you with another pic of Derry, below. I'd posted it on Instagram this morning (and I'm loving Instagram, can you believe it?), but it's too cute not to post here too. One day, my Derry-Bear will absolutely break my heart into a million pieces. But I hope not today...or anytime soon.

Take care, everyone.

Peace.

I love decluttering as well, and did a brutal purge in my bedroom, bathroom, linen closet and craft room over the holiday break. I don't envy your weather though...I'll keep our warmer days right now! Glad to see Derry is having a nice relaxing time. Pain is part of love and something we can't avoid. Although we can live in the moment and cherish all the time we have together.

I enjoy decluttering when it's over but during, not so much. I'm bad about deciding what should go because I think I can sell on ebay but realistically I won't but it holds up the process. I did clean out a dresser drawer that'd been bugging me but most of the stuff I just moved to a new location. So, yeah, I could use your help! Lol! I love seeing Derry's sweet face here and on Instagram!

I love the Derry pics and he has the right idea of what to do on cold days. I really hope the roof gets properly replaced soon.
Winter is the best time to declutter as you tend to spend more time indoors.
I have accumulated lots of stuff as well and am doing the declutter thing.
Not always crazy about the job, but love the result!
Going through stuff can be a task and a half but it does feel good when we are done

As you know I'd done a big purge last winter in advance of listing the house for sale. But even now, I'm finding things to get rid of and I haven't even made a dent in the kitchen. So far, I haven't had to re-purchase anything I've given away. :)

Oh the snow, yuck! I hope spring comes soon, so your roof can be properly repaired.

Derry is one handsome mancat!

I've always liked that extension on the top of your fence. Itr's simple and it works. Also, it doesn't look bad, as many extensions or precautions against cat-escapes do.

And yes, you are often de-cluttering. I swear, you must have de-cluttered several strangers' homes by now, too. How you've ever managed to have as much as you've gotten rid of, I don't know. But it's a good feeling afterward, like after a good cleaning.

John sure said it for me. When I have successfully decluttered, which is maybe once a year...maybe, I fancy the house can breathe better! I know I have gone about in the house making rounds as it were, enjoying the lack of some of the clothing/junk. Derry looks as always, delightfully smoochable and soft.

Oooh, a "brutal purge," I love it! :-D Good for you!

Ha! Even if I had something that *would* sell, I'm just too lazy to bother. But most of my stuff is Ikea, Wayfair, etc., so nothing valuable, and no valuable jewelry either. Makes it easy to donate when I'm done with it. :-)

It'll be a few months yet for the roof, but it'll get done...I'll make d*mn sure of it!

The results feel good, yes. I'm lucky in that I love the process!

It never feels like work to me, I love clearing stuff out. It makes room for new stuff. Ha!

That's the thing about decluttering, there's always more than can be given away. I find I'm always buying stuff, even if only at the thrift stores, so it's an endless cycle. Hey, it's the circle of life! :-D

Yes, I probably have decuttered enough to fill a few homes now. That sounds terrible. I buy inexpensive stuff (or stuff on a good sale), then I replace it with better stuff (or stuff that suits my needs better). What a crazy thing to do.

The urge to declutter usually hits me 3 - 4 times a year, and I always seem to have stuff accumulating in one of the spare rooms, waiting to be taken to the garage and then to be donated. It would help tremendously if I stopped buying stuff I really don't need! :-P
it was crazee here on saturday too, I was shoveling on sunday morning, not much but enough
TO shovel, texted mom to ask her if she wanted me to come over earlier than normal and shovel
and she asks "why" she's ten minutes from me....got to her house, street and drive ways there...CLEAR !!!

dood !!! ya bee lookin most handsum in yur insta gram foto :) ☺☺♥♥

You have the tidiest looking garage area I've ever seen! I agree with you about purging, but my purge pile doesn't look like that! HA! Derry is as sweet as ever. Oh I've been meaning to ask what is your IG account name. I'd like to subscribe.
We have been enjoying seeing Derry on Instagram! So handsome and photogenic!
