Day 2 of working from home

Or as I prefer to call it, Starbucks deprivation.*

This is how day 2 got started at 8 AM, above.

The University still is open; people do have to be there, as students are in the process of moving out of residence. And the Health Sciences departments have different teaching schedules, need to be in operation, as does the Faculty of Education and the School of Business. I think there's a lot of rotation of staff, though: one week some are working from home, the next week others are. My own exec director and one co-worker have chosen to work from the office, as the risk is extremely low in our area. I probably would have chosen to do the same except that I have serious concerns about being on public transit at this time, even with so many staying home and schools being closed. I don't want to be in close confines with people, except when completely necessary. I'll have to venture out on Saturday to pick up my prescription renewal from Costco, and I'm definitely not looking forward to that.

My "assistant" yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, on the good weather days I will be making an effort to get out for a walk before I'm on the clock, so to speak. I went for a half-hour yesterday, and almost an hour this morning. I actually had to rush to get home to be on time. Structure seems to fall by the wayside very quickly when one is working from home!  😁

My "assistant" early yesterday afternoon.

No, I didn't reverse the photo!

Here's my assistant late yesterday afternoon, after I'd gotten up to do something else:
As you can see, I have great help!

I don't know how things will go if this heads into weeks, or god/dess forbid, months. A lot of people still don't seem to be getting the message to practice social distancing and to work from home where possible, and also not to hoard, as you can see by the snapshot I took in a nearby grocery store yesterday:
Good thing I didn't want any frozen veggies.

Yesterday I had the news on most of the day, watching all the live updates from Canada's Prime Minister, the Ontario Premier, health officials, etc. Today I'm just playing quiet jazz, I don't need to keep hearing about it all, it only adds to my levels of fear and anxiety.

Everyone just take a deep breath, be sensible, practice proper hygiene and self-isolation, and be kind. To others, to yourself.

Peace.

*I'm a much happier person when I can have my tea lattés, thank you very much. 😋

My daughter is still going to Starbucks (drive-thru) for her 'hits'... But then she is still working at her office (although that may change anytime). She can work from home for the most part, so I think that is coming. She's in San Antonio, TX. I like your 'assistant's attitude... just sleep through the crises. Works for me! But do take care, Kim.
Dearest Kim,
Sad that you're being deprived of your tea lattes for the moment.
Let's all hope that this will pass. Yes, public transportation system is the most risky area for exposing yourself to.
The hoarding is absurd but how can we change some people's behavior?
Don't you ENVY our fur babies, they seem to live happily inside their own very sheltered world and don't have to worry about food or anything.
Our Spooky needs his rabies shot and the Vet Amanda usually comes at our home to do that as it is way too traumatic for placing him inside a pet carrier. Someone (yes!) once has hit him over his eye, he got quite a blow and healed thank goodness but I've noticed amnesia and had to re-teach him TRUST above all. We had him live with us for a couple of months, apart from his siblings, in our downstairs Rose Suite, with litter box. He woke us up around 5:00 AM as he so wanted to go outside to do his stinkies... of course I did not let him. It worked and he has regained his trust and for no money in the world I want to ever tarnish that! He once walked with us in our wood garden, across the creek and suddenly growled so loud like a true panther. The significant other of our neighbor across the wood garden lot was outside... That told us a lot! Yes our fur babies can communicate to us!
Stay healthy and well and fingers crossed for your trip to Costco. I'm contemplating my trip for making the usual 3-week rounds to Costco, Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe's. It is mainly for health foods that are not available locally. God forbid they would turn to be out of stock after making the 2.5 hour trip!
Hugs,
Mariette

I was a bit tongue in cheek re: the tea lattés, though I do miss them. They're nothing compared to the gravity of this situation and of course I'll willingly deprive myself of them. That said, when I'm out on Saturday I probably will mobile order (for the first time) so I can just run in and out to get one!

Good luck with Spooky. I got an email from my vet clinic a day or two ago saying that they will only deal with sick animals and emergencies, plus booster shots. And humans will not be allowed inside the clinic with their animals, they have to let a staff person take the animal while waiting outside. The same for food/meds pick up; we're no longer permitted inside. My girlfriend in Fredericton, New Brunswick, got a similar message regarding her own vet clinic, so I imagine this is now the norm for most (or all) clinics across the country.

If you venture out, I hope you're able to get what you need. Be well, stay safe!

Well, nothing at Starbucks or any other place is worth risking one's health or the health of anyone else, of course. That said, when I go to Costco on Saturday I likely will mobile order from SB and just run in and get it, quick in and out. I'm more concerned about being on the bus and of course being around the hoards of people at Costco. :-(

You both take care too, Rian!

I wish I could stay at home with my assistant.

Good luck at Costco - go early.

Glad to hear you're able to work from home. I agree that public transit is not where one would want to be. I believe Montreal had two cases that apparently were due to exposure on the bus.

Unless it is horribly cost prohibitive, perhaps a cab would be the best bet for the Costco run? My cousin's husband drives cab and he was saying that between riders he wipes down the door handles, seat back, seats, and the debit/credit card machine with anti-bacterial wipes. I suspect most drivers are - they don't want to get sick anymore than the rest of us.

I have no idea how long this will last, but my friend J in England has been asked to self-isolate for 12 weeks. She isn't sick, but is 70 and has diabetes. It seems to me that may be an indication but perhaps their government is being cautious. I'm like you, I turned off the news today because I've had enough for now. Tomorrow is another day.

Take care, and stay well!
Some people like my husband can not work from home, a bit hard to drive a bus from home

I can't work from home, unfortunately, but no one has suggested shutting down my work-place, yet. I have plenty of food, if I need to stay in, since I like to keep my supplies well-stocked even in good times. I would like some frozen vegetables, however, but, like your part of the country, there is none to be had.

Don't all pharmacies deliver? Can you not have them deliver your prescription?

As for your assistant, the way he works, you'd think he was related to the boss...

My vet sent a similar...well, exactly like the message you got regarding stay out of the office and they'll take the animal in themselves. Katie needs her rabies etc. shots and her senior physical. They will have to sedate her so I would have to leave her this time for awhile.

Dad was amazed that last week the thing sold out was Frozen Pizza. Not one to be seen. What are people thinking?

My dad works at a financial institution, and they've closed all lobbies. He's thinking he's gonna get the axe any day now. Stay well, y'all.

Kim, we are glad you are working at home with Derry, and that you don't have to go out except for that prescription. We've been working from home, too, and love our new supervisors, Gracie and Ava. Daily walks have become a big highlight for us. :)

Stay safe, and stay healthy, dear freinds. XO

Glad you are working from home. I know Derry will appreciate the company, at least for a little while! Mine have started ignoring me as we begin week 2 at home :)
Derry is a most excellent assistant!
I find that my assistants tend to nap and have fisti cuff battles to liven up the day :)
The shortages on the store shelves are becoming all too common. I hope you were still able to pick up what you needed for your own pantry.
Stay well.

That last line didn't come out right. It makes it seem as if he's lazy because you are. Oy. I meant that he can get away with being lazy because he knows the boss...

I knew you didn't mean me personally as the boss in your comment. :-)
