18 months in the making

Finally, I was able to have a donation pick up yesterday, after 18 months of decluttering.

As far as I know, the only charity picking up in our city now is the Salvation Army, so I booked them a couple of weeks ago. When the guys came I told them I had the dining table (not in the pic) that goes with the chairs, but that I had cracked one of the legs (tried to move it, loaded with heavy items, on carpet). They were happy to take it anyway. So except for a few things that need to either go to the dump or be picked up by the junk guys, my garage is once again cleaned out.

How many times over the years have I done this?

The good thing is that while I've spent a boat load of money on take-out food during COVID, and on things like vet bills and the naturopath, I haven't done a lot of shopping for the house or shopping for clothes. I don't need much in the way of clothing now anyway, since I'm working from home indefinitely, and I really cleared out what I had, particularly my summer tops and capris. (I'm not likely to ever get out of the stretchy "yoga" pants and capris I live in now unless it's a special occasion.) I also cleared out a lot of bedding, because really, how many sheet sets and blankets do I need for just my bed and a guest bed?

I have a couple of Ikea dressers I'd like to donate, but they're in use and as I don't want to replace them with more flat-pack furniture, I'll just hang onto them for the time being. So I don't expect to keep having a garage filled with stuff for donating until/unless I'm packing to move. 🤞

Sunset a couple of days ago

Now I'm just figuratively holding my breath at what the weekend will bring, hoping only happy things/events for a change. Friends R & C are coming up for a visit on Sunday, so that's something fun to look forward to.  😊

I hope everyone has something enjoyable to look forward to this weekend as well; we certainly all need it. Take care.

Peace.

Good job cleaning out things, we've done that too many times to count. I hope you have a fun weekend with your friends. Howdy Derry!
Congrats on the declutter. What a chore, and it looks like you really gave the jackpot to
Salvation Army. Been about 10 years since the last clean up here, but with a truck and a
van, we made lots of trips to church yard sale, Salvation and Goodwill. Also a couple
yard sales. Yuck on those, so much work and overseeing buyers. Never going to do that again.
The big thing is to NOT REPLACE!! Easier said than done sometimes. I have iron resolve,
but someone else here has not control over replacing, lol. Have a great visit , Lynn and Precious
I am glad you were able to get everything collected and now have freed up your garage space.
It was our second holiday. Last month we took a four day cruise to nowhere just to see how things were progressing. It was for UK passengers only and everyone had to be double vaccinated at least 2 weeks before sailing. We all also had to take a drive through Covid test at the port and were not allowed in the terminal until a text came through to say it was negative. Masks had to be worn inside apart from eating and drinking and we felt very safe.
We went again this month for 7 days this time and everything was the same. We could get off in Belfast and Liverpool but only got off in Liverpool as the ship was docked on the Mersey right in the city. Belfast was further out and we would have had to take a shuttle in. Since the TIAs in June my legs don't always cooperate as well as I would like them to and can suddenly feel like lead. I would worry about being too far from the ship and have problems getting back.
We have another 7 day cruise booked for next month for our 50th wedding anniversary.
We did think long and hard about these holidays after sheltering since March 2020 but I can't live in a bubble forever so decided to do it while I am still able to.
We all need to clean out shit from time to time as it has a habit of accumulating on its own.................lol
Dearest Kim,
Glad you finally got this major thing DONE!
Wow, feels good for getting one thing off your list.
We're still waiting for the outdoor electrician, for the tree cutters, for the exterior painter... We had again LOTS of rain so since April, it goes on and on and on.
My iPhone died this afternoon, so that gives me another task to tackle soon.
Big hugs,
Mariette

It feels so GOOD to get stuff out and have room to move. I have to make another pass on my "storage room" and do the same. Great inspiration

After sharing life for many years in a 3000 sq ft home to living life in a 900 sq ft apartment one learns the art of decluttering and downsizing very fast! And begins the rule of "buy one dispose of
two" with the exception of food items of course ... or perhaps, shoes! I do have two feet, so buying
one shoe would be foolish! Yoga pants, fuzzy pants and jeans are staples.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff! It must feel nice to donate it, and have the garage free again. Hugs to you and Derry, and we hope you have a great time with R and C! :)

I'm always impressed at the amount you can donate, and the number of times that amount appears! Best wishes for this weekend, and may Derry feel extra good.

Now that is an amazing donation! You're helping out others with things you no longer need or want or have room for, that is fabulous! You are a terrific example! Know it feels good to get it out of your garage.

Wow! I'm impressed. We need to do this so badly... especially the computer room where the stuff is flowing out of the closet onto the floor... and the garage which is packed with not only our old stuff, but some of my mom's and our son's. However, I'm not sure either of us has the energy.
WOW! Quite a haul for Salvation Army that I'm sure will find very thankful homes.

Nice haul for the Salvation Army, and a great declutter for you. I've been puttering a clearing things out but not nearly doing as good of a job.

Enjoy your visit with friends today!
It always gives you a lift when you clean things out.
We always think we need more than we do and very often we don't miss the things we give away.
As the saying goes..."all you need is love and a cat" or a cat to love ;)
Great job!!!

Great job on decluttering and donating! Auntie and I keep a box or two in the guest room at all times for donations. You just never know when the urge to purge will strike! Glad you are doing well and enjoying your work from home life. We are three home two in the office right now. I hope this pattern continues. I feel it brings good balance to life.

Well done Kim, it must feel nice to make some room. I need to clear out my wardrobes again. Too many clothes for one girl.
