Feeling very lucky after last night's crazy wind storm
We had an incredible wind storm in our region last night, and it took out the tree behind my fence.
The tree hadn't been doing well for several years now, not since we had a terrible drought during a recent spring and summer. A lot of trees were very stressed after that and it was only a matter of time before this one went.
Derry and I were very, very lucky that the wind was blowing in just the right direction to take it down without damage to my fence or unit or even to the cars below. I do feel very blessed and thankful for that.
I "slept" in the front bedroom last night (the old master bedroom), and turned off power to the two back bedrooms, just in case the tree ended up through the roof or a window. There wasn't much sleep for me, listening to the wind howl, though Derry fared better.
We both will miss the bird-watching, and I will miss the sense of privacy the tree afforded. However, on the positive side, since my unit faces north I now will get more daylight in the living area, as well as the two back rooms upstairs.
I did text the property manager last night, with a couple of pics, though of course he didn't bother to respond. So we'll see how long it takes him to have it cleared, and the rest of the tree cut down. I would hope not long, since it's blocking parking spaces.
So, farewell, Tree. I enjoyed your presence for these past 21.5 years; thank you for that. 🌲

yesterday and by midnight it calmed down. Now the sun is out and it is again below freezing
this morn. How fortunate for you and Derry it did miss your home. It would be nice if it got
cleaned up soon, instead of just having to look at it for an extended period. This time of year
all light you can get inside is a blessing. At least it was not nesting season, so no baby birds
or eggs were lost. Frightful to have the storms come during the night, like the tornadoes here
in US on Friday night. We are far enough north it was just bad rain and wind. Lynn and Precious

That sure must have been scary, any storm is and if there are huge trees nearby, there is a huge danger...
We're still shocked by the devastating images from Kentucky where so many people lost their lives and everything is flattened. How dreadful during this time of the year...
May they all find warmth that others provide for them.
You had me smile about Derry, not so being affected in his sleeping well.
But it is true, more light in your rooms will be quite a difference. We noticed that also in our kitchen bay window area, veranda and living room. Two giants gone and what a huge impact.
We biked this afternoon because the rehearsal for the Messiah was cancelled. Both of us are always amazed at how many dead trees remain very close to so many homes. One day, with a good storm they will come down and that damage will be far more costly than having them cut down in time.
Wondering when the crew will remove that tree behind your apartment building... hope soon!

We had a wild night here in NS ! It was rain and wind with thunder and lightning!
It took away all the snow we got on Thursday :)
I hope this is not an indication of what Winter will be like :o
