Seriously, winter? Really?

Our latest storm, last night and early this morning. Seriously? I have only rude words.

This is the accumulation of snow since the latter part of January, below. We did have that Epic Blizzard at Christmas, but it had melted and we were down to grass. Now I can't even lift the shovel high enough anymore.

I dug out the driveway, then just for fun, walked the 2+ km to the closet bus transfer station. It was a nice morning once the snow eased up, quiet except for the sound of snowblowers and shovels.

Below is one of the snow "mountains" from the plow, at the end of one of the streets in our complex. It's massive.

This was the only sidewalk that was cleared along the way (or anywhere else for that matter), so I think it must have been done by a kind and generous homeowner with a snowblower. The side streets weren't even plowed yet, and it will take days for a city sidewalk plow to come by.

So. Much. Snow.

The buses were running, though, so after a stop for a tea latté and some egg bites from the Starbucks kiosk in Loblaws, I hopped a bus heading out to the west end. I figured if people actually made it to work, it was my civic duty to shop and help and support the economy. Haha!

I did pick up a couple of small things at HomeSense--and no, I was not the only one in the store. I wasn't the only one in the main mall either; it's at the other major bus transfer point. I did buy a pretty pottery mug and some decaf coffee at Marshalls while I was there, and a couple of cosy mysteries from Indigo. "Civic duty" done.

I know I complain about winter every year, but it's what I do. I'm not the hardy, love winter kind of Canadian (I don't know many who are!). I'm the gripe about it every day until it's gone kind of Canadian. Oh sure, I know we have no control over Mother Nature, but this is the only way I can endure the season.

This year, though, is a significant test of my endurance!

Oh my word! How do you survive all that cold and white! We had the 2 inches of rain that turned into your disaster. I do not know how this winter has avoided northern Ohio, but I'm more than grateful when I see your ugly/beautify photos of the mountains of snow and ice. At least you could go out and that had to help alleviate the doldrums of being indoors watching it come down. Stay warm and don't slip on the ice you'll have when it starts to melt and then refreeze. I hate those snow-mountains. They last forever. Such a scene would be nicer at Christmas... I notice that most of the automobiles in the first picture are outside the garages. Do most on your street have two cars?

Yes, many do have multiple vehicles, John, or have their garages so filled (because the units are so small and there's no real storage inside) that a car can't fit in.

Kim, it's really pretty... but I wouldn't want to venture out in it. And since I'm almost always cold (even here in the south), I can only imagine what it must be like there. Guess it's just a matter of knowing how to layer up... or perhaps Canadians are just hardier.

I understand the way you feel about winter and snow, it's exactly how I feel about Hurricane Season. By the way, meteorologists are already talking about how the Gulf of Mexico & the Atlantic Ocean are unseasonably warm and that is a big trigger for storms. I expect earlier storms this year. So yeah maybe a little snow down in Florida would be nice to cool off the waters.
Yikes, we'd be closed until June if we got that much snow. We used to live in the mountains and we always got lots of snow. Nope, I sure don't miss it.
I've had that much snow. At least it looks good. In a week when it melts, and get sprayed bu puddle, it will just be a big, ugly, wet mess

Ugh, that is a whole lot of snow! We've had so little snow this year; while I don't miss having to shovel, it does not bode well for the aquifers later in the year. Stay warm and safe, Kim. XO
Wow! The only time I have seen that amount of snow is when we went to the Norwegian Arctic Circle to see the Northern Lights. I have to admit I was like a kid jumping into it, but a one off is fun, every winter and no thank you!

Wow - I'd just want to stay home inside.
Gee! That IS a lot of snow.
We got snow as well, but it was light and fluffy.
We might a little bit on Monday.
We are looking forward to Spring(even though our Winter had been nice).
I am looking forward to grass!

What an awful lot of snow. We don't know if all this is a result of climate change, but here in Israel, today is unseasonably HOT. If it's 29 degrees Celsius at the beginning of March, how will it be in the summer?
We wonder if we needed all this snow because the Earth needed it to have a little cleanse/detox. :0) XO Don't worry, in the blink of an eye it'll be a beautiful Spring.

Ick! We haven't had any real snow for awhile now (and I hope that continues). But I am in total agreement with you, winter sucks! Hopefully your weather improves quickly and it will all have melted in the next week or so. Except the mountains of snow - unless the city comes by and removes them. Our city only does that in downtown core, residential areas are on their own.
Dearest Kim,
Such bitter winters are a burden.
I would not have been able on my walker to see my primary care doctor on Friday and then off to the imaging center for more x–rays of my chest.
You were brave to walk and shop!
Great photos that speak for themselves.
Hugs,
Mariette
