One of these things is not like the other

I was down at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour yesterday morning for a walk and saw this interesting goose swimming with a small flock of Canada Geese.




The Merlin app could not identify it, perhaps because I have only the eastern Canada pack installed. I Googled, it could be a greylag goose, but I'm not certain.

Anyway, one of those things certainly was not like the other!

Good morning Kim and what absolutely beautiful photos of the water and of course the Geese. MOL MOL MOL we have Canada Geese here they all have declared permanent residency too.

What ever kind it is, it seems to be getting along swimmingly with the Canada geese. Looks to be much bigger so watch out come Thanksgiving Day for roasted goose! Nice seeing the big water. I enjoy those photos. Lynn and Precious XX

Lovely photos Kim. I think your guess at it being a grey leg swan is spot on. Looks like a juvenile one.

We have a lot of Canada Geese here. They arrived one winter and decided to stay. I don't know what the other goose is.

The Merlin app didn't give me anything useful, and Google lens suggests it is a graylag goose. So I got the same results as you did. It's definitely a new one for me.

Maebeme, thanks for double checking at your end. I did send notification to Merlin, but I'm not sure how often they update their bird packs.
