Monday Miscellany

I don't have anything earth-shattering to post, at least not yet. Ha. So just a few miscellaneous things:

Early morning down at the swamp, August 13th.

It's move-out day for my neighbours, so exciting for them, I'm sure. I wish them happy, healthy, successful lives in their new home.

I popped out to a flooring store on Saturday, was there longer than I anticipated, looking at flooring ("life-proof" vinyl options), as well as carpet options for the stairs (for safety!). I already had a general estimate from them, but the flooring I prefer is more expensive (of course) than what was in the estimate.

They will redo their quote to reflect the increased price and a few other things that were omitted from the first one. I have not paid any deposit, but unless the revised estimate is beyond what I'm anticipating, I will proceed. I've been dragging my heels on this because of the mess and work (for me) it will create, but it's not going to happen on its own. And it's not like an HGTV episode, more's the pity, where I leave for "half an hour" and presto! it's all done.

As you can see, I'm going with a taupe-ish colour choice, something that will, I hope, compliment cool or warm decor. There are other (greyer) options that look better with the kitchen floor, but I don't want greys, as my own colour scheme is all warm neutral.

The stairs will be redone in a beige, go with anything, carpet. "Bird bath," it's called, though I have no idea why. Obviously I'm not creative enough to spend my work life coming up with new names for essentially the same colour....

Even if for some bizarre reason I decide not to go with this particular flooring store, my colour choices will remain the same, no matter who does it.

Not my rose, I don't have any!

I'm taking tomorrow afternoon off to return all the samples to the flooring store and then to catch up with a friend over a late lunch. I'm anticipating enjoying a rare glass of wine with my meal!

Have a great week, all, and take care.

Dearest Kim,
Well, selecting the right color is always quite a challenge. Even the lights at the store can be deceptive...
But you sure have finished your kitchen by now...?!
Lovely rose captured.

Kin the swamp picture is beautiful such lovely shades of green.
It almost looked like a painting.
You will love the vinyl floor we have it in our office and in my husband's train room. Love the samples you shared and sending lots of wishes it goes smoothly. Having the house in turmoil again but hopefully quicker than kitchen reno.
Have fun with your friend and a lovely lunch
Cecilia
What a beautiful mix of color on the swamp! And that rose! Wow.
It seems you are making progress with flooring ideas and that is good to get it done before cold weather. If they fit you in of course. Time off for lunch and a wine sounds so relaxing. We had the cold and now it is unbearable hot and humid. Bike ride this morn left me wilted. I will not try it again tomorrow as it is to be even hotter. I do not like this. Hope your weather is lovely for time off work. Lynn and Precious
That is some beautiful swamp! Good luck with the flooring project!
The swamp looks so serene. Enjoy lunch and wine with your friend.

Love the photo of the swamp! The lighting is lovely.
I like your choices for flooring, though in a house with a 7 year old, I'd never dare go that light.
Have you heard/seen your new neighbours yet? I do so hope they are good neighbours.

Things are indeed moving ahead, though I understand your reluctance. I always thought of the mess and work to do with cooking, and wanted meals to be like on an episode of "The Galloping Gourmet", when he would reach under the counter and produce a finished dish. That's what you need done here, except with renovations. Where's Graham Kerr when you need him?
