Observations on the mundane

There's nothing "exciting" to report on at my end, folks, it's the usual mundane work and personal life stuff. I did have lunch with a friend on Saturday, though (he's kind enough to play uber driver from time to time, when I need help with large and/or heavy things) and a lovely visit from friends on Sunday.

My outdoor holiday decor, such as it is, is up now. I don't think I'll bother with lights this year because what goes up must come down. The wreath is new, from Rona. (Home Depot's competition here.) I thought about it for a few days before I bought it, just to be sure (it wasn't particularly expensive, either).

My decor inside is up too; also, such as it is. Linens and Christmas floral arrangements, my strings of warm white lights, LED candles, etc. That old Santa in a boot thing from my childhood (beside the tree); I assume it's older than I am. (It was the only Christmas decoration I brought back from Halifax after Mom passed.)

I have a lovely 4-ft tree, but I'm not feeling it this year, so I've brought out one of my tabletop trees and have called it a day.

Oh, Canada Post is on strike now, and apparently sides are far apart (though I haven't checked the news today). If they don't settle it soon, I will not be able to send snail mail cards this year and will be relegated to posting an e-card. So if I typically send you a card and you don't get one this year, that's why!

The last mundane note is my observation on how much dust carpets actually hold versus having bare floor throughout the house. I use heavy-duty Swiffer dry mop cloths every day and they're almost black with dust. Every. Single. Day. You'd think I never cleaned. Seriously, I never grasped how much dust settled in the old carpeting! (I have three air purifiers that run 24/7 too!)

Gorgeous morning sky, below, on November 15th.

Finally, a note for Lynn and Precious (and anyone else): I sometimes do think about restarting the flashbacks of the boys (and Annie and Chum too), but truthfully my heart hurts too much to do it (regularly). It's like picking at a scab and reopening the old wounds. I did have a dream about the boys a couple of nights ago, though. They were their usual selves: Nicki front and centre, curious about what was going on, and Derry hanging back, cautious. It was nice to "see" them. 💕

Take care, all.

The Christmas decorations sure are pretty and I see a sweet kitty is there for snack time.
Dearest Kim,
LOVE your mini Christmas tree and I ONLY love white lights—period!
That Santa boot is very special to you.
Your Christmas wreath is also a good choice.
Stay cozy!
Hugs,
Mariette + Kitties

mum sez we needz a liddle tree like that
Jake hanging out to give his approval fur the outside decorations. I hope he was not "paid" for his approval, lol. I really like the wreath, it is so full and colorful. I do not decorate outside and with the new pre-lit (color) tree inside will be easy up and then down. Your sky scene is just gorgeous. We had fire red sky Monday and did get some much much needed rain. Not a lot yet. Snow coming Thursday night. Precious evidently peed under the bed while recouperating. What a stinky mess. I can not use perfumed cleaners, so I am doing doses of baking soda and vinegar with drying time between. I hate to think how dirty our carpets are even with vacuuming, lol. Glad you had some friend time. Our Thanksgiving is 11/28, late this year. What a rotten deal to have the post on strike for Christmas mail. Lynn and Precious XX

Love your new wreath and your little tree! Before I was married, Angel Graphite and I had a little tabletop tree like that. :)

Our tree is up and decorated. I think this is the earliest we've done so. Ava is happy it's "back," and Target is showing now indications of wanting to climb it so far. We used shatterproof ornaments this year, just in case.
Your Christmas decorations are so pretty. I love the wreath!

Kim well done on deciding to buy that beautiful wreath!!!
I love the Santa in the boot and the table top tree. MOL MOL
indeed what goes up must come down. That reminds me of a funny story from working in the Physics Department. I think I'll tell that on Final Feature Friday Post 11/29/24
Hugs Cecilia
Your decorations look lovely. I don't decorate much for Christmas now but I do hang all my cards from the book cases. It does make getting a book difficult though!

I may have the tree up but, again this year, no ornaments. I have five new cats here, and two of them are kittens, so the tree will be enough of something to destroy. As for dust - and cat-fur - I don't want to think about it: eight cats, carpets... Sigh.
