Ok, finishing up with the Poker Run

Image
The last of Saturday's start to the Poker Run. The bird on the far left is especially hard to see. I had zoomed in as much as possible, though.    This boat (below), while not flashy, was especially long and sleek.  Backing out and turning around.   That's one of the harbour cruise boats on the right, the paddle wheel boat.  Kayakers paddling over to watch the start of the race.  Congregating here before the start.  That's the Wolfe Island ferry, making its way through the boaters, over to the Island.  And off they go! They have to round a buoy and head east.             On to something else next time.  :-) Purrs from the boys and peace from me.

I've fallen into an alternate work reality

Image
It's not what you think. Whatever you're thinking. In my 12 years, 8 months at this institution, I've never once been in any washroom that had double-ply toilet paper. Always single ply, the cheapest stuff on the market I'm sure. Even our malls have double-ply toilet paper. This afternoon I discovered double-ply toilet paper in our washroom. And in these times of fiscal restraint (for all but the upper administration). I had to pull it apart to verify it. Obviously I've fallen into an alternate work reality. Gosh, who knows what tomorrow will bring? Let's hope none of us loses our job to compensate for thicker bathroom tissue. *** Anyway, here are some pics from the Poker Run on Saturday morning. I did take the camera with me for a little lunch time walk today, so at least I'm getting lots of snapshots! Looking toward City Hall  City Hall tower This turned out to be the best spot for viewing the start of the race. A few people ...

Duck Yoga

Image
I went downtown this morning to watch the start of the annual Poker Run . Two hours of frying in the sun. And as I had been leaving the house I thought do I take my  hat? No, I replied to myself, I won't be there long, only to take a few snapshots and I'll find a shady spot. Ha. Anyway, I've not been home for long and have whittled the almost 300 pics down to about 150, which I still have to edit (crop, horizontal adjust, etc.) I think I took pics of every boat at the marina.  :-) Right now, I'll just show you this little gal, who obviously has duck yoga down pat.     And a very brief video of one of the boats in the race heading out to the starting point. Apologies for the jerkiness of the camera; video isn't my strong suit.Oh, and I saved the video in standard format, not high def, to reduce file size. I'll post the best snapshots another day.   Purrs from the boys and peace from me.

Annual Poker Run

Image
It was a gorgeous day for the annual Poker Run, so off I went to check things out. I had been down in 2008, but not last year. Really, it looks essentially the same year-to-year! BTW, the Poker Run is held at various locations across North America, a speed boat race, and participants race to various check points along the St. Lawrence River, pick up envelopes with cards, and at the end, the best poker hand wins. Not the fastest time, as I understand it. Every year there's a bit of a brouhaha here with a small group of people who don't want the tourist dollars it brings because of its pollution factor. But every year it seems to go ahead. The Poker Run and the Buskers are the two leading tourist draws in this small city, and both bring a lot of money to community businesses. I'd suggest that those who don't want it ought not to use a car, fly, use gas lawn mowers, or a clothes dryer. Forgoing those things will do more to save the environment and make Kingston "s...
