Made it to Friday; fingers crossed for Derry's 3PM vet appt!

I'm patting myself on the back for making it to Friday this week.  :-) And while it's not yet spring here, we've seen the snow start melting little by little. It was even +6 Celsius two or three days ago! The boys after work yesterday. Bare ground where I had shovelled! Anyway, we had our new person (on the budget side) start Monday. She's sitting in my old cubicle, adjacent to me, though I have a "wall" of overhead cabinets that blocks us from seeing each other and gives a measure of privacy. I like her. I had wondered how she'd fit in, given that the budget folks take all this a bit more seriously than we do. They're all younger, climbing the ladder of career success and on our side of things, we're all older and wondering how many years we'll have to work before we can get the hell out of here. LOL. But she's older than she looks (looks about 35, but she told me she's 46), and she seems very down to earth--for which I'm...

A Few of Yesterday's Early AM Snapshots

The light really was glorious. I had only the Canon Elph with me, though. Still, I enjoyed taking the extra time before heading in to the office and you know what? I managed to finish up a project that's been dragging on forever and leave just after noon, taking a half day to get an early start on the holiday. 7 AM-ish, Friday  I was too far away to get a half-decent snapshot, with just the 5x zoom.   City Hall tower  Confederation Park fountain   City Hall This morning I have a much-needed haircut, just in time for the trip east. Then a few errands and a lot of laundry to do. Cleaning. Making up my mind what to take for clothes would be a help too. I know how much I'm packing, but not entirely what --I have too much choice, perhaps.  :-) The boys' food is organized--every can labelled for the cat-sitter (Derry AM, Derry PM, Nicki AM, Nicki PM). Ten days' worth, just in case of a dire situation. With the food cupboard full. Labels on the boys' kibble containe...

I thought today might be the day

Image
I thought today might be the first day to pass without dissolving into sobs over Annie's loss, but nope, it's not. I was doing okay until I read on another blog ( Us Three Coons ) that their cat, Nimbus, is quite ill, with fluid in his lungs. The vet will try to drain them...but this brought up Annie's passing for me, since she, too, had fluid in her lungs. I have no second thoughts or doubts about the decision I made to let her go--it was the right one for her, at that time . Too late to do anything but that final act of mercy. But I'm still asking myself why , and what could we have done differently? Because it's not fair that she's gone and that I have to continue without her. However, as my mother often told me, no where is it written that life is fair. Because it's not, and most of us know it only too well. Anyway. We've had a lovely sunny day, albeit cold. Still, it's March, and even though winter doesn't want to loosen its grip,...
