Musings on a Small Life

Yesterday's "occupy" protest was a yawner, at least for us. There was a rally at our athletic and recreation centre, but nothing happening around our building. Somewhat disappointing. I felt really sorry for the poor security guy who spend the entire day in the building's vestibule. Seriously. They didn't even rotate personnel for this. I don't even know if he got lunch--he had told me at one point, when I asked, that someone was supposed to give him a break at 1PM. Wouldn't surprise me if no one had, though. So much for our "excitement!" The cats aren't finding much excitement in the back space right now, either. Snapped yesterday through my window. I hope one of you is having some excitement--the positive kind, that is.  :-) Universal Blessings, Light and Mercy to All Beings.

So I took Annie in to the vet today, to have her blood work. Figured I'd take her on a Saturday morning, so I didn't have to take off from work. I also took Nicki along, to have his nails clipped and his Advantage applied--which you would think would be easy, but isn't. He totally freaks as soon as he gets a whiff; last year I had him shut up in an 8x10 room with no where to hide and he was literally up the walls trying to get away. I had a hell of a time catching him--seriously--and had to sit on him to apply it. He hid from me for 2 - 3 days afterward. So I thought I'd make it easy on me this time and have the tech do it, plus get his nails trimmed at the same time. And Nicki was fine, except for his incessant yeowling as soon as I put him in the carrier. He cried ceaselessly until he got home. Other than that, he was a good boy. It was Annie....Annie who always is difficult at the vet. In fact, I could hear her this morning, in the back, and it wasn't pretty....

The only thing I shall miss when I give up this townhouse (sooner or later...who knows?) is my little back space. Okay, technically it's not mine , it belongs to the condo corporation. They own the exterior of the building and all the accompanying land. Nonetheless, for all intents and purposes it's mine. It's very small: about 15.5 feet by 18 feet. I don't really have a green thumb and I certainly don't have an eye for what should go where. But still, it brings me Joy, and of course the cats enjoy the bit of greenery too. Thanks to one of my co-workers, I was able to get earth and more annuals yesterday, as well as two hanging baskets for the front, and I took the afternoon off to putter around. There's nothing quite like getting your hands into earth! I'll be moving all the containers around once the bleeding heart is done and cut back. BTW, she gave me some catnip, which you can see in a smaller pot on the right, next to the ivy. It'll be touch ...
