Monday Miscellany

Image
Somehow these Mondays roll around too quickly. The weekend was uneventful, quiet. I expect the "fleas" are home now, can't imagine otherwise, what with school starting next week. They must have been quite late getting home, though, as I was up at 10PM (sound of girls screaming outside my fence woke me) and the neighbours weren't yet back. The car was in the driveway at 4:30AM, though. BTW, the screaming that woke me -- at first I thought it was one of the cats, screaming in pain and dying from a blood clot, as happened with Chumley. Can't tell you how many years THAT took off my life. However, the girls were running around with flashlights, back behind my fence, and they didn't linger once I got up and flicked on my back light, took a look outside. (No damage to the fence; I checked this morning.) It took me a while to settle down after that, though, my heart in my throat and almost literally sick with fear. I'd like to have one day -- o...

Had to "cave" and put Nicki back on Prednisolone

Image
I caved and called the vet clinic yesterday afternoon, then stopped by on the way home to pick up more Prednisolone for Nicki. I've tried every combination of the AmazaPet and Respo-K (from PetAlive.com) I can think of (given together, separately, "x" number of times a day....) without any good results at all, so I have to let it go. Unfortunate, since I just ordered (and received) 3 bottles of the AmazaPet. And also ordered one more product to try, already shipped and on the way. ::Sigh:: I'll keep it to have on hand when it gets here, but there goes another $60 USD. Yikes. Anyway, I have to treat Nicki; he's been having an asthma attack every one to two days for at least a month. Twice a day on rare occasion. Not as prolonged as in the past, so perhaps the remedies were having some effect, though obviously not enough. But Pred? Ugh. I looked at the dosage instructions--same as the dose he was given last time, 0.5 ml twice a day, which is 5 mg twice a ...

What a day: Windows, Vet Appt, Random Act of Kindness

Image
The window guy showed up at 8AM, finished around 10:45AM. Quick snap of one of the old windows. I should have used the flash, but you can see how drafty the old one was (both were). Not nearly as bad as it could get. Mind you, it was only minus 11C today.  I'm surprised the entire frame wasn't rotten through.      New window #1  New window #2 How to caulk from the inside. :-) The new windows in. The only disappointment for me is that they were a "retrofit" and so the inside frames were not replaced. They're in crappy shape and dirty too from cat hair sticking to the double-sided sticky tape I've had around them over various winters (for the plastic film that you can put over your windows to keep drafts out.) So, eventually, the frames will have to be sanded down and painted. Sigh. Another chore I'll never get to. BTW, the installer asked me who laid the floors upstairs, wanted to know what the "funny gaps" were (pre...
