How to succeed at (my) life

Image
This week I dug out my FitBit, something I haven't used in about 7 months. It was because of my over-use of the FitBit that I developed plantar fasciitis in the left foot (I've had it in the right foot for years ). I'm a walker, have to be without a car, so making 10,000 steps a day never really was an issue. The issue was pushing myself to do that before noon, and pushing myself to take 12,000 steps a day, 15,000, more. So when I was no longer able to walk due to the pain, I tucked the FitBit away in a drawer without any intention of using it again. Well, this week I thought I'd resurrect it, more for the time function than anything else. I recharged it, and this time, I set the bar low. Not 10,000 steps a day, which my foot cannot do for 7 days a week, every week. Nope, this time I set it for a measly 2500 steps. And you know what I've discovered? The secret --seriously --to succeeding in life is to set the bar low.  Really low. Because wh...

Gratitude for the Challenges

Image
I find it interesting that for the past couple of days I've been feeling deep and sincere gratitude for the current challenges (house-related). Not that I want to be having this experience, but rather that by having it, I've become motivated to make changes that will bring more of what my soul needs into my life. Does that make sense? I think that when life is "okay," we're less inclined to grow, to expand our consciousness. I don't believe that all positive change has to come about through adversity, but it does seem that most of us need that boot in the butt, at least at certain times in our lives. The other thing I've just realized within the past few minutes is that the Universe/Life has been trying to teach me to "stand in power" for decades, and that if I'd learned that lesson long ago (oh, say, when first with my ex), when those lessons were more subtle, I probably wouldn't have had to be hit over the head now, figurat...

Life Lesson #563

When you're putting paper towel on your lap, to use as a napkin for your lunch, you want to be sure that said paper towel wasn't actually the melted-cheese-covered piece used to microwave said lunch. However, should you happen to err and actually do this, you can (mostly) scrape said melted cheese from your slacks, using a knife, and blot the rest with wet paper towel. And hope you don't spend the rest of the day smelling like cheddar. Thus endeth today's lesson.

A moment of crystal clarity

Image
I had a split second of crystal clarity at 4AM today, waking up. It was "OMG, my life's depressing."  Gee, thanks, Self. Just the sort of inspiration to help me get the day started. I'm chalking that up to hormones. I chalk everything up to hormones. Or whacky brain chemistry.  :-p Something inspiring that did catch my eye yesterday was the post at Marc and Angel Hack Life . Number 3 from Eight Dangerous Things We Teach Each Other : 3. You need more to be happy. You are doing just fine.  You don’t need any more or any less to be happy. Life would be so different if you stopped allowing other people to dilute or poison your perception with their words and opinions.  Happiness is derived from the way you see your own life; it depends on your thoughts, not on what you have or what you do not have, or what other people think about what you have.  Read The How of Happiness . I like this, because we so often get caught up in feeling that we should b...

First lesson of the new year

Image
My first lesson of 2013? Four days was one day too many for the coleslaw in the fridge. Which I ate this afternoon, because I lack the ability to smell. (Haven't I done this before?) And  you thought it would be some grand spiritual revelation? Here's Mr. January from the Halifax firefighters' calendar. I don't have a scanner at home, so had to take a snapshot of the photo. He's a cutie, with a gorgeous body, but definitely far too young! (Not too young just for eye candy, though.)

Christmas Lights Lesson for the Day

Just because you buy a set of indoor lights, the exact style as your existing ones, and supposedly the same "warm white" colour, does not mean they will be the same colour when, after three tries, you get them arranged on the tree and plug them in. In fact, the new "warm white" colour can be quite different from the older "warm white" colour. And one more note: Just don't even attempt this without copious quantities of alcohol or chocolate--neither of which I have on hand. *Headdesk* Okay, this is turning into an all-day process.... ****** BTW, last night the doorbell rang--twice--around 7PM. I thought I'd have a heart attack, my heart was pounding so loudly in my chest, because I couldn't think who else it would be except the unstable neighbour coming to rant about something else. I didn't answer the door. As it turned out, it was another neighbour who wanted to borrow my driveway for a few hours. I know this bec...
