The view from the Big Apple

Image
Colborne, Ontario, that is. I had gone to visit friends Robin and Chuck for a couple of days, got back yesterday evening. Robin and I went to the Big Apple (incredibly tacky web site) yesterday morning, mostly to see the farm animals at the petting zoo. She'd just been with another friend on the weekend, though later in the day when it was packed. We got there around 9 AM, before the hoards of people. (It's a huge tourist stop right off the #401, Canada's busiest highway.) They have lots of critters, feathered and furred. It must have been about 20 years since I was there, and then it was only a big red apple with a bakery and a little restaurant. Now it's a massive operation with an expanded bakery and restaurant, a sweet shop, a tacky souvenir shop, even their own cider making. It also has a separate garden store, mini-golf, and an observation "tower", the tower being contained at the apple itself. I went all th...

"If at first you don't succeed..."

"...try, try again." Twenty-five times . Because that's how many pairs of pants it took me trying on today, in five different stores, before I found one-- one --pair that would fit my short, increasingly round, middle-aged body. Value Village, Sears, The Bay, Northern Reflections...all wash-outs. Finally, in the Alia/TanJay/Nygard store in the mall I found a pair that fit me. It was depressing and demoralizing. And made me long to eat a piece of cake just for comfort. Which I didn't do, but only because I wasn't near a supply of good cake. I did, however, find a pretty blouse at Value Village, along with a tote bag and two pretty plates. Nicki checks out the blouse...will he approve?  It has a subtle shimmery look to it, because of the tiny silver dots. One of the two plates. Nothing special, I just thought they were pretty, and they were 2 for $1.99, so not exactly a huge expenditure. I'd been to Value Village last Sunday, ...

"Doodling"

Image
This is Doodles, Doody for a nickname.  :-) I saw him early Monday AM, heading for the bus stop. He didn't come toward me (until I had to hurry to catch the bus), but he didn't run, either. I found out this morning that his name is Doodles and that he belongs with the adult son of a townhouse unit tenant. She was looking after him for a week; he's now gone home with his peeps. He's a cutie! He and my boys have been the best part of the week so far. (I'm on vacation next week, so I just have to survive the insanity and get to Friday at 4 PM!) Peace .  Comments are off for "wordless Wednesday".

Wrapping up the week

Image
I don't even remember the early part of the week. It's insane at work right now. I'm good, but I'm not Wonder Woman. And no, as a matter of a fact I can't pull a miracle out of my butt, so don't come to me last minute, with everything else I have to get done, and expect one. Or hey, even two. I do remember that I had two training sessions this week, one Wednesday morning, one this morning. They gave us a "stress-relieving" troll doll today, and I relieved my stress by ripping its head off and stabbing it a few times this afternoon. Very therapeutic, and a safe outlet for my work frustrations. The doll had an annoying voice anyway. Derry had a vet check on Wednesday afternoon; I had taken a quarter vacation day for that. (No need to explain how stressful this was for both of us.) He's gained weight, as anyone looking at him can see, and he's up 0.25 kg from last year, to 6 kg. It's too much for his little body, so I'd ...

The eyes have it

Or in this case, the eye, singular. Derry's eye, as he was peeking out from under the hosta early Sunday evening. He'd been out there all afternoon and wasn't interested in coming in at all.  :-D Comments are off. Peace .

My sniffly snuggle bear

Image
Derry has had the sniffles for the past several days, but you'd never know it by looking at him.       Knock on wood, his eating hasn't been affected, though he's been less energetic than normal. I'm not sure if it's a cold or allergies, but in any case, I've been giving him some homeopathic stuff to (I hope) help. It doesn't do any harm, at any rate. Hopefully he'll be his normal self again soon, and fingers crossed that Nicki doesn't get it, if it's a cold. Nicki already has enough to contend with (i.e. his asthma). Have a good weekend, all. Peace .

Better luck next time, Nicki

Yesterday evening I was sitting in the lawn chair in the corner of the garden, by the gate, with Derry on my lap. One of the young squirrels was scampering all across the fence, and when Nicki finally noticed him, he leapt up the fence, behind me. I had to crane my body around to snap pics as best I could, without disturbing Derry too much.         Oh well, better luck next time, Nicki! Comments are off; it's "wordless" Wednesday for you! Peace .
