An unexpected gift

Image
Friends Robin and Chuck came for a visit yesterday. I'd last seen them in early July, when I went for an overnight visit. During that visit, Robin and I had gone to Magnolia Cottage, a lovely little shop in Brighton (they're on FaceBook). I had seen an absolutely adorable cat print , done by a local artist, but as much as I had been tempted, I didn't get it. I have been kicking myself ever since, and have emailed Robin a couple of times to ask if the shop still has it or to let me know if the artist does another one. The print in the store, so cheerful and whimsical, it makes me smile to look at it. Well, as I'm sure you can guess, they arrived yesterday, with the print as a gift for me! Here it is, up on my wall at the top of the stairs.  :-) It was such a completely unexpected (and incredibly generous) gift that I could help but cry. Robin and Chuck are dear people, so kind, and I've been blessed to have their friendship. (And not because they brough...

Airborne! (Sort of)

Image
There's only so high a chubby body can jump, after all. Not the best snapshots (click to enlarge), but too cute not to share. Derry yesterday after work. I didn't see what he was after, but he didn't get it, whatever it was. Happy Friday!           Peace .

Being content with small steps

Image
I read a great quote recently, author unknown to me: " You need to be content with small steps. That's all life is. Small steps that you take every day so when you look back down the road it all adds up and you know you've covered some distance. It took me a long time to accept that, but it's true. You need to have patience ." This resonates with me, because I think a lot of motivational messages imply great change, quickly. Something life-altering and fairly immediate. And when I look at my life, particularly the past decade or more, I don't see any significant changes. I feel I'm not moving along my path fast enough. So it's good to be reminded that even what seems tiny and inconsequential can add up in the long run. My oh-so-slow step forward? Yet another donation pick up yesterday: 4 large garbage bags of clothing plus miscellaneous stuff, 3 boxes of glassware, stationery and more stuff, a newer dehumidifier, the most uncomfortable ...

It's a mancat Monday

Image
I'm not sure if  most of you who still blog for your cats do "Mancat Mondays" any longer -- I know some of you do, at least. So before I actually get up from the desk and leave the premises over lunch (gasp!), I thought I'd post pics of the boys from the past few days, enjoying the back space -- and TWO lawn chairs.  :-)               Comments are off. Everyone take care and I'll be around to visit blogs when I can, if I haven't already. Peace .

You know you look bad when you get a senior's discount, and you're not a senior

Image
I had popped into a drugstore this afternoon for something and ended up being given the senior's discount. Granted, their "senior" label applies to 55+ (I'm 53). The guy behind the cash did ask me if I was 55 and I said no, close but not yet. He gave it to me anyway. LOL. I'm surprised he didn't suggest I visit the make-up counter for something to cover the dark , dark circles under my eyes.  :-P Anyway, we're still here and all fine (as far as I can tell), I'm just overwhelmed and insanely busy at work -- it's probably the most prolonged period of stress and busyness in my 16 years 7 months there. Probably the closest I've been to burning out too, other than when I was clinically depressed in the early years there. Hence the lack of posting and visiting.  So I'll just leave you with some pics I took in early July, down at Lake Ontario Park, but never got around to posting. I went down one Sunday morning to take pics of the high w...

Tuesday Tussle: "To the victor goes the spoils"

Or in this case, the victor kept the spoils. The snapshots are self-explanatory.                            Peace .
