I'm always glad to see Derry hold his own and "win" something, because most of the time Nicki's booting him out of his favourite spot, or similar, because he (Nicki) has to be top cat all the time.
I love these pictures that indeed tell the story! Annie feels a solidarity with Derry. Pierrot always wants to take her spot and usually succeeds. Plus, Nicki looks pretty happy with where he ended up.
What an enjoyable series of images. You're right: there was no need for explanation. A deliberate provocation - a fight - a victory - but even the vanquished does not seem all that put out. A smile-inducing event.
They still tussle quite often, but not usually for as long as they would in younger days. And I often don't have my camera handy anymore, especially when they tussle inside the house.
Derry actually uses it far more than Nicki. Sometimes Nicki will grab it in the early morning sunshine, but not often. I did have a second chair too, but it fell apart on me, so I'll get another one at some point. :-)
