Monday Miscellany

Image
I don't have anything earth-shattering to post, at least not yet. Ha. So just a few miscellaneous things: Early morning down at the swamp, August 13th. It's move-out day for my neighbours, so exciting for them, I'm sure. I wish them happy, healthy, successful lives in their new home.   I popped out to a flooring store on Saturday, was there longer than I anticipated, looking at flooring ("life-proof" vinyl options), as well as carpet options for the stairs (for safety!). I already had a general estimate from them, but the flooring I prefer is more expensive (of course) than what was in the estimate.      They will redo their quote to reflect the increased price and a few other things that were omitted from the first one. I have not paid any deposit, but unless the revised estimate is beyond what I'm anticipating, I will proceed. I've been dragging my heels on this because of the mess and work (for me) it will create, but it's not going to happen on its...

A bit late in the day, but it's still Friday in my time zone. 😁 Have a good weekend and take care.

Mancat Monday with George

Image
I found out last week that George is 8 now. His mom told me last week that George was only supposed to be temporary, a favour for a relative, but she couldn't let him go. (I think an overseas move was involved in all of this.) So it all worked out well in the end.  He's starting to chunk out a bit, and I don't think it's all due to the incoming winter coat. (Kim whistles nonchalantly.)  Happy Monday!

Try not to be the bug

Image
With the exception of Thursday, I've been the bug on the windshield of work life for the entire week. Splat, splat, splat! I'm chalking it all up to the full moon this coming Monday, which I think is a super moon. 😁🌕 Anyway, here are a couple of smiles for the day.  I hope you're all the windshield this week, people. 🙃

Wildlife Wordless Wednesday

Image
From my brief (2-day) visit with friends last week.   This frog was HUGE.

Thrift store shopping companion

Outside of Value Village this morning. He settled on my bag for the long haul, while I was waiting for the store to open. Eventually a lady gently removed him for me, after she snapped a pic. 🙂

Have a great day and weekend! BTW, I was gone only a couple of days, will post a few critter pics next week.

Wordless Wednesday: Heading Home

Thankful for a ruse

Image
There's always a first time for everything!   I just watched a mourning dove skitter down our street, unable to fly, with George the Mooch stalking (no stopping him, even though he's WELL fed, the instinct is too strong). I figured she was toast and was praying for a quick end...until she finally flew up to a roof top. It was only then that I realized she was pretending to be hurt to lure George away from her babies. I've seen this behaviour on nature programs, of course, but haven't ever seen it "in real life." I hope her babies stay safe from all the roaming cats!     P.S. The unit next door has sold already, the listing was taken down yesterday. I hope the quick sale bodes well for me, in my turn.

George admits nothing

Image
I came home from errands today to find a dead young robin on the lawn, intact except for feathers strewn by and on my steps. George admits nothing.  In fairness, it could have been someone else, but George is not saying anything about that, either. (For anyone new to my blog, George has a home three units down from mine, but since I feed him Fancy Feast, he likes to hang out here.)

Okay, the last one isn't for a chuckle. It just seemed appropriate on so many levels.  Happy Friday and take care!

Changes...And Random Pics

Image
"The only constant is change," so it's said. My adjoining neighbours (my quiet, unobtrusive neighbours of 7 or 8 years) sent me a text on Friday letting me know they have a conditional offer in on a larger house and are listing their unit. This isn't a surprise, other than that it took this long. They have an almost 2-year old daughter and the wife might be pregnant again (not that I can or would ask). So while this isn't unexpected, it IS unwelcome. Long-time followers of my blog will (perhaps dimly) recall the previous absolutely ghastly, screaming, abusive people that owned the unit before this lovely family. I cannot and will not go back to living that way. Of course I could have wonderful new neighbours too! Most likely it will be somewhere in-between fabulous and horrendous...hopefully closer to the former than the latter. 🤞 A recent "selfie" with George . Yesterday, spurred on by this, I went to a local flooring place to talk options for redoing ...

Wordy Wednesday: Lip Smackin' Good

Image
I probably have more pics of George now than his human mom does. BTW, I was chatting with her a few days ago and she confirmed that the grey and white cat does have a home in our complex, close by actually. I believe she said his name is Jake. George, meanwhile, is not letting the oppressive humidity deter him from getting his (almost) daily Fancy Feast. 🙃

One of these things is not like the other

Image
I was down at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour yesterday morning for a walk and saw this interesting goose swimming with a small flock of Canada Geese. The Merlin app could not identify it, perhaps because I have only the eastern Canada pack installed. I Googled, it could be a greylag goose, but I'm not certain. Anyway, one of those things certainly was not like the other!
