Annie's home and hanging around
She's home and hanging around in the basement right now, though she's come upstairs for a few minutes, a couple of times.
I brought her inside and up into a spare room, thinking to keep her there for a few hours to settle in, but she made such a ruckus I gave up after about 15 minutes, if that. The boys haven't hissed or fussed at her all; she, of course, has hissed at Nicki. Felix would be proud.
She had a wander around the main level, had a few bites to eat (Derry's food) and then made her way to the basement.
I'm going to pick up some RestoraLAX (MiraLAX in the US) and try that to keep her stool soft, perhaps a couple of other additives (natural remedies) as well. It was suggested by my vet, though I already had info on it. It's a powder and so can be put in food, not a sweet, sticky substance like Lactulose. She won't eat food with pumpkin. I'm thinking I'll have to change the feeding routine, though, because right now I feed at certain times, but leave the food out, even if they don't eat it. But I can see I won't get the stool softener into her unless she's hungry. So they'll have to be on a more regimented feeding schedule, I think -- and if they pass on their food at a certain time, will have to wait till the next feeding time. That's going to be hard for me to do. I did read, though, in my research today, that's it's actually better for a cat with chronic constipation to eat fewer but larger meals. Contrary to Annie's habits. I can't validate that, though, it was only one comment on one site. So we'll see how it goes.
Right now I'll just let her settle in and do her thing, keep alert for any nastiness from Nicki this evening. I'm actually amazed the boys didn't show any hostility at all. (Knock on wood.)
Fingers and paws crossed for her continued regularity...and continued eating. She's had two appetite stimulants; the second one wears off tomorrow. I have another, just in case, but am hoping she continues to eat on her own, that the UTI is sufficiently under control that it doesn't put her off her food again (if that's what did it in the first place, I really don't know).
Oh, man...I'm going for the strong stuff tonight: a shot of rye!

Despite what my Cats would have the world believe, they get two big feeds twice a day and only leave a little bit after each meal for nibbles later on. Hunger is the best seasoning for a good hearty gobble.
I've taken Miralax and it is totally tasteless and textureless. Annie shouldn't notice a thing!

Good luck with her new diet regime!! Gosh so much to think about!! I keep thinking fibre - you know like wholemeal fibres and things like that to help with the digestive sytem. Is there a kitty equivalent?

But I am sure with time you will get them to adjust, but I bet there will be some begging and some way for them to lay guilt on you.
