Another "Monday Miscellany"

The last Monday of July already, can you believe it? I feel the inexorable slide to autumn. Sweater weather: good. Winter snow, ice, and freezing rain: bad. Won't go there yet!

Boy, there was something seriously "off" with me last week, and I can't blame PMS. I know I posted I was grumpy, but "grumpy" was an understatement, frankly, and on Saturday I was in a rage all day, over nothing. For absolutely no reason whatsoever. The kind of anger I used to have before I crashed into depression the first time, and punctuated by serious "my life is crap" thoughts, and "All this and death too?" So I really had to wonder what the heck was going on. Peri-menopause and whacked hormones? Another imminent bout of depression? Too much sugar? (Sugar is a depressant for me--in spite of which, I consume copious quantities every day.)

Well, it beats me, but I was fine on Sunday and am fine today. I guess if I feel like that every month now (goddess forbid), I'll have to look at hormones as the culprit.

Anyway, moving on.

I got a really bad snapshot of the unneutered grey and white tabby who comes to eat. As soon as he sees me he takes off, unfortunately. You can just (barely) make him out through the door screen.
And Toby hung around most of the weekend, meowing his fool head off for attention. This morning he was all over my fence, and got water and vinegar squirted in his direction (none of it coming into contact, I'm sure). I took him some fresh nip, gave it to him on the front step, to keep him distracted. Poor Toby. It's not that I don't care--he makes my heart heavy. But I'm not in a position to take on the care of another cat, for many reasons. Not the least of which is that I will not upset the dynamic in the house.

Toby's photo shoot on Saturday AM (no nip).
He's such a goof.
Just once I'd like someone else in the neighbourhood to give a shit about all the roaming strays and semi-ferals/ferals and at least put food out. Why is it always me? Why is it only me (or seems to be, as far as I can tell)?

Oh, and speaking of strays, etc., I've not seen the little black girl in a while. I saw her, what, five times altogether? She's not been back in a few weeks, I have no idea what's become of her.

As for Olympic things, I've been watching as much coverage as I can, though not as much as I would like. Bits and pieces. I've seen some of the swimming heats and wow, a few were real nail biters! But I still think Jim and Bob (see my previous post) are the best commentators around.  :-)

That's pretty much it for this Monday. I'm looking forward to a few days' vacation from work (Wednesday through Friday, with Monday being a civic holiday). And I'm hoping it won't be too crazy next door; the boy is back home now after spending two weeks with his grandmother. (They got home after I went to bed last night, saw their vehicle this morning.)

Well, what will be will be. and yes, I'm doing my best to keep calm and carry on.

It has got to be hormones!! It must be! They so control our brains and hearts!!

I do remember taking vitamin B12 supplements and stopping them asap when I found myself one minute ok,next minute just sobbing like no-one's business - literally crying my heart out and then not knowing why! I was very volatile emotionally but part of me was thinking rationally like "this isn't right, why am I crying!??!" So I narrowed it down to the vit. suppl. and stopped and was ok! Weird!

So glad to read the rage has calmed down now and I do hope it stays at bay for your vacation! You must and will have a good holiday!!! Yay!

Oh Toby!! Isn't he just lovely?!?! He is so full of character and personality!! How I wish wish wish I could have him! Truly!!!

I do hope you are not alone caring for the ferals round your place! Oh dear! I hope there are other kindred kind souls who connect with these beauties! I hope the black cat has found a good person like you somewhere!

Yikes the kid is BACK!!!

Oh I am so enjoying the Olympics - so many many sports events out there - there's the sword fighting, shooting, judo, the weightlifting (I quite enjoy this!!), so so many!!!! Cycling - not so keen on! Gymnastics are quite good. Basketball - just give the US men's team the gold medal already - they're too good and too unbeatable! LOL!

Take care, Kim!!!!

I think it is hormones too. I used to be the same way. I would be in funks that would last DAYS!!!!

That Toby is doing his best to win you over isn't he?

We are greatly loving the Olympics but it is making me get even less done blog-wise than normal and I don't do much as it is!

Any chance of trapping the grey and taking him to a low cost spay/neuter clinic for a neuter? I'm thankful to have several other people on my street who also caretake the ferals/strays. It's a lot of work!

Toby is so beautiful.
He reminds me of the cat that was on The Cat From Hell this weekend. During that episode I felt so sorry for this beautiful little furry because the boyfriend hated him so, but by the end of the episode things were calmer and supposedly a good relationship was blooming between cat and boyfriend. I hope so because he was such a sweet cat.

Glad to know you are feeling better!
Signs of good things to come this week.

Toby is so cute! He looks like he would enjoy a few tummy rubs! LOL!

Yes, I wish people would take better care of their pets. it's all so sad isn't it?

Hey cuz.. definitely hormones... maybe a chat with your doctor might help? even now after all the treatments/surgery I've had - I still have the odd day of inexplicable rage... which is weird - cause I am not producing many hormones now at all ;)
as for Toby - if there were a way to catch and send him cross country - without traumatizing the poor boy - I'd be in.
As for the rest...deep breath, repeat as necessary.. :)

Toby might be "in" too, though he'd need to learn to trust another human. Even now, if he sees me away from my step, he'll run until I call out and he knows it's me. I've not seen him approach anyone else.

I do feel badly that I don't want to deal with cat fights in the house, vet bills, spraying and so on, but I just don't have it in me to cope and to put my own cats under that kind of stress. And I don't have the ability to take on vet care for another body. Almost $10K in 3.5 years is more than I've been able to manage as it is.

So Toby will not be coming into *my* house, not while I'm around.

Still, I feel guilty and feel that I'm failing him.

But I'll just have to deal with it.
You are not failing him. You are giving him something he does not have, that is a wonderful thing. Is it possible to do more, of course, all of us could. Even as spoiled as my own cats are there is 'more' that I could do for them. if by not doing it I am failing them, then so be it.. but I choose not to see it that way.

I saw this on facebook and thought of you.

I have the days like that, when I am annoyed by everybody and everything, and hate that I am feeling that way. Sooo frustrating, and tough to remember the good days.

Having my week off and little treats every day has been good - just being able to take a little break.

Mr Toby is one handsome cat, and bless you for feeding him and caring for him and the other strays.

We don't seem to have any strays where I live, so I take pity on the birds and feed them all my fruit and bread scraps. That keeps them returning to the garden and provides Miss Pops with cat tv.

Hugs
