Three days is my limit

My stylist told me about a easy, natural hair "product" that works well for styling and to keep one's roots from becoming greasy between washings. She had gotten it from her mom, who got it some time ago from a Dr. Oz episode, apparently. I Googled when I got home and found this "recipe":

8 ounces of water
1 tsp of sea salt
1/2 tsp conditioner

Some recipes I found added a dollop of hair gel too, others didn't. I didn't bother.

Mix it all up in a small spray bottle and spritz into your hair, especially the roots, before styling.

So I thought I'd try it, and I have to say that while normally I wash my hair every other day, with this stuff I can extend it to every third day instead of every second. I don't think I want to stretch it to four, but that's because I have very oily skin. My stylist washes her hair once a week now, using this homemade recipe. I'm going to keep using it for at least another week or so and see how it goes...then maybe toss my other hair "sprays" away. The ones I never use anyway. :-)

That's my "exciting" tip of the day. LOL.

A couple of pics I snapped last week in the early AM, on the way to the office:

I do once remember watching some factual programme or other on the telly - this woman didn't wash her hair for EIGHT MONTHS. While she was being interviewed, her hair was wrapped up in a scarf so the audience couldn't see. She was saying how the first few weeks were the worst - her hair just went icky and really nasty but afterwards... then she unwrapped her scarf and these gorgeous flowy bouncy hair just tumbled down and everyone just gasped! LOL!

Anyway! I hope this recipe works - I can't see why not - it can't do any worse than the chemicals we put on our hair with our shampoo!!

I'm a once a week hair washer - my hair's too thick and dry! Bleagh!

Take care

I am not trying to endorse a product but I will tell you I am over the moon on WEN. It is not a shampoo. But it conditions and washes your hair. Since I color treat it does not remove any of the color like normal detergent based shampoos do. I was very skeptical (this is pricey) but I want you to know the very first time I used it I was simply flabbergasted. It was the best product I have ever EVER used. It give my hair more bounce and body than I have ever had before. I have been using it now for about 3 months and I am as impressed as I was the first time. I have since bought more of the more line and I am very convinced for myself that this is a superb (but pricey) product. I don't normally feel this way about any product but this one exceeded my expectations.

A lot of people in the Paleo world are stopping washing their hair. I've tried it but can't get past 8 days. I don't wash mine everyday anymore, but I always wet it each day. I might have a go with your recipe Kim - thanks XO

I'm going to try out that recipe. Do you suppose that it has to be "sea" salt----would just plain ole out of the tap stuff do as well?

Just an aside: When did hair stuff--gell, conditioners, shampoo, mousse etc. start being called collectively "product"? I've run into it several times lately and am assuming that it eliminates the need to really specify. Just part and parcel of the continuing multiplication and expansion of hair care products and the ensuing complication of society.

Don't mind me. I just had a birthday and increasingly rue the tendency these days to complicate transactions that used to be (in the good old days) relatively simple. And ironically all these "improvements" are touted as making life easier and better and more efficient than before.

Oh, the entire beauty industry is a racket, especially the "anti-aging" facet of it.

BTW, don't use anti-aging eye creams! They actually all contain a mild irritant, which is how they work. The skin puffs up in reaction to the irritant, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines. Seriously. Saw it on a CBC documentary a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure I've posted about it before too.

As for hair...If you want nice shiny hair, just add a little bit of lemon juice to a few cups of water and rinse with that. Mom told me that when I was a child and I used to do it. Now we all pay $$ for products to do the same thing. Mind you, I wouldn't do it on colour-treated hair, which mine is now. :-p

Interesting, I'm washing my hair every second day but it's generally because I have night sweats and my bedhead is frightening! Even the cats are concerned, lol.

I'll have to try this recipe - now if it only worked on night sweats too!

I guess because I have short hair, I don't buy anything or do anything for my hair except wash it. I don't even color anymore. When I wore my hair longer, I definitely was interested in items that would make it healthier, shinier, etc. I've hear many times that not washing your hair is very good for it but I also have oily hair so the longest I go is just skipping one day and that's mainly because I work from home most days. Like Eileen, I can have a bit of bedhead because my hair is so darn thick.

Pretty pics!!

I have really thick, dry hair. It's gross I know but I can go days and days without washing my hair with no oil in sight! LOL!

Happy Wednesday!
