I think that's a good sign

I saw three geese by/in a pond in a little park by our "big" mall, while out this morning. (One on the dead grass on the right, near the top of the image, one heading down into the water, one in the water by the dead reeds. (I was some distance away and at full zoom, so this is the best I could do.)

 

I take them as a good omen, as it means that enough snow and ice has melted in a few places to allow them to alight, at least for a while.

We did have 5 cms (about 2 inches) Saturday morning, but it melted by the afternoon, once it cleared and the sun made an appearance.

I'd like to note, however, that not one single street plow or sander was sighted the entire morning; the bus dispatch was inundated with calls from drivers who couldn't make turns or get up small hills, etc. (The streets and sidewalks were deadly icy.) In fact, I found out from someone in this complex that our 8:15AM neighbourbood bus couldn't make it up the slight incline from our bus stop to get around the corner and continue on its route; it had to be towed. Good thing I had walked down the street--read slipped and slid down--and taken an alternate bus route!) I know the city contracts its snow-clearing services out now, to the private sector, but this was beyond ridiculous--and extremely dangerous for all of us out on the roads.

(Lack of) service complaint aside, the weekend was fine and the boys seem to be okay, if somewhat (okay, a lot) fed up with the lingering winter. I took quite a few snapshots of them over the weekend, I just don't feel like posting on their blog right now. Maybe Wordless Wednesday, I have a cute series of pics of Derry.

And I'm sorry I'm not doing much visiting at the moment, either. I'm in a funk and just don't feel like doing anything at the moment. I know I'll start to perk up again once we get above freezing (minus 19 Celsius windchill tonight), but right now everything seems especially challenging.

Ah, if only I had a loonie for every single time I've opened and closed the patio door over the past 12 years I've had cats in my life....
