It's a three-cookie morning

Our "new" boss brought in cookies leftover from a meeting this morning. It's indicative of how I'm feeling that I ate three large, heavily-iced shortbread cookies before 10AM.

They were very good, not that that justifies it. LOL.

There's nothing like an abundance of sugar and butter to comfort oneself, though.

Day 8 with Nicki and the Aerokat mask and I'm starting to think that all the cats I've seen in pics and YouTube videos actually were drugged. Or are extremely laid back cats, which is so not Nicki. In fact, my continued "failure" is what precipitated my early AM complete meltdown at home, though wasn't the only factor. Yep, Kim's going to fail yet another cat, health-wise -- or so it seems today.

Are there any cookies left???

Since it is a monumental task to give Simba a dollop of laxatone on his paw every couple of days, I cannot imagine what it would be like to try to put a mask on his face. He would avoid me all day long and run in the other direction. So don't beat up pom yourself.

Never think you are a failure with your cat. That is so "not you". It isn't easy to do what you are doing. Keep at it until you find an answer. Hug.

It isn't failing. Really, it's not. I have given literally thousands of cat pills, and I can't get a pill into any of these three unless it's by trickery. I can't even get Ashton on a baby scale! A lot of it comes down to individual cats and their personalities. Over time, I think they can learn to tolerate a bit more, but if we can't push them a lot further over their personal lines, it's not a failure of ours. It's who they are.

But in the meantime, there is nothing wrong with cookies in the morning. Just saying.

No it's not failure, you're doing the best you can and so is Nicki. I can't even trim Annabelle's claws! I would hate to think of pulling her.

Oh Kim, I feel for you.

When Silver passed I beat myself up over it for months because I felt I hadn't done my best for her. I put through hell the last week of her life trying to find out what was wrong with her and I promised myself later that I'd never allow that to happen to another cat.

Then Shady got sick, I hurried my decision and I beat myself up over that. The fact is we can't know what our cats are thinking...they can't tell us and all we can do is try.

I'm sure in his own way Nicki you are trying to help him but the mask is scary and he just can't past it.

Hang in there, I hope he eventually accepts it. If not, you tried your damnedest.

Your experience makes me think of the time when we were trying to give Max Sub-Q fluids for his ailing kidneys. It was brutal at first, he fought and cried and we both sobbed while trying to go forward with the circus. To not go forward was to hasten his death, which felt like a terrible option, but going forward was filled with tears, frustration and being overwhelmed with feelings of powerlessness. We had lots and lots of practice at navigating all of this and eventually we go to a place when all of us cooperated and we did the deed without drama. None of us ever liked it but we came to a truce. Anyways, I hope the same outcome comes about for you and Nicki comes to realize this treatment is making him feel better.

I echo the words of the others - you are not a failure. Be kind to you!

Kim, you are NOT a failure! You are doing the very best you can for Nicki, as you always do.

Moosey has to take a bunch of meds, and even gets nose drops every night. Believe it or not, he's gotten used to it all -- doesn't *like* it, but he's quite good and tolerant of it.

Hang in there, my friend.
