Jeepers, what a yo-yo!

Any males reading this might prefer to skip it!

Anyway, the yo-yo is my mood, which I hope can be attributed to the roller coaster of pre-menopause.

I've been really low lately, no surprise as winter really impacts me, but I don't usually get so low anymore that I'm troubled by suicidal thoughts. Okay, sure I know I really don't have a reason to keep going except to take care of the boys, but most of the time I content myself with other things and get through the days, as many of us do in our own ways.

But since the weekend, and especially yesterday? Jeepers!

Then, when I woke up this morning, I had the first verse of an old hymn running through my head, one I've not thought of in decades:

This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.

I got out of bed and out of the blue just started to cry as I was getting up, making coffee, etc. It passed but come on, this is nuts. It has to be hormonal, it's not like I ate anything bizarre yesterday or even have had any any alcohol lately. (Good thing!) I know I've been feeling rather desperate for green, for the earth, for flowers, to get away from city living (any city), but it doesn't usually affect me quite this strongly.

I've noticed in the past months that my episodes of rage are far less frequent and less intense, so I'm wondering if they're being replaced by the low episodes.

OMG, am I ever going to reach a point where my mood is stable and reasonably good? There really had best be something awesome at the end of this roller coaster.

The paradox to life is that when you're at your lowest and need a positive life change the most, even a small one, you're too low to effect it. I've found that it's only when you're feeling good, feeling energetic, motivated and determined, that positive life changes happens--because you have the will to put them into place.

Anyway, for a topic switch: I got the Ikea bench home on Monday and got it together without undue difficulty. And without alcohol too, I might add. The boys, especially Nicki, were a great help in unpacking, but lost interest when it came time to assemble.

The bench is cute, would be the perfect size for my 32-inch TV, if I can figure out a way to hide the absolute mess of cables that are behind the existing TV stand. (I'd like to get rid of the old stand but am not sure it will be with this bench.) Anyway, the bench is sitting in the living room, off to the side, till the weekend. If I don't use it for a TV/media stand, I'll do some reorganizing in my bedroom and put the bench up there.

As for today, well, we have some sunshine at the moment, which in itself is spirit-lifting, and I'm going to hold onto the thought that eventually spring will prevail, even if we have to wait till the end of April this year for her to do so.

Peace.

I'm so sorry you have been feeling so low. I'm sending love and light your way. Know that there are people 'out here' who care about you and want very much for you to feel better.
Depression is such a bitch. It tells you lies.
It will pass. It WILL pass. Just hang on in there till it does ok?

I'm just wishing the hormonal roller coaster would pass faster! :-)

Thanks, Janet.

Whenever life gets discouraging for me, I retreat to another world. It may sound counterproductive, but I don't stay there. I listen to uplifting music, which to me is Haydn, Telemann or Vivaldi. Mozart is good, but stay away from his "Requiem". Gordon Lightfoot can be melancholy but it makes me think others know what I'm feeling. Something rousing by Stan Rogers - "The Mary Ellen Carter" with its 'up yours, adversity' attitude. Alternatively, I read about other times and places.

Then, when I'm done, it's as though I've had a holiday. I'm back in a fairly crappy world, but I'm renewed a bit.

I'm partial to Handel's Water Music, actually. Hard not to feel good listening to that! I listen to jazz all day at work (quietly) too.

I think most of the time I retreat to "another world." LOL.

Your bench is adorable! Good for you for putting it all together. You probably know they make those sleeves for lack of the right term to put wires/cables in. You could easily then just use attachments to them thread that sleeve in along the edges of the table and viola you have hidden wires. I think you can probably even find white 'sleeves' for encasing the cable in. Or you may simply go without the sleeve and just run the attachment along the edges of the bench and thread the TV cord through.

I am wondering what in the world I get for too. But I also know that each day of life is so valued. I can balance it out by seeing how much harder so many others have it than I do and how I should always be so grateful that I can walk, move and get around with relative ease.

Too soon those days may descend when I am not able to, so even though I don't see any great need for being here, there must be something I don't know and I'll just accept that.

It all flies by in such a hurry anyway it seems.
Do you think SAD has anything to do with mood fluctuations?

((hugs))

Yes, I've seen those cord sleeve thingies, have it in mind to get some. They might help a bit. I have FEET and FEET of TV cable coiled behind the TV, though, because the tech left me with so much. Don't think I'll pay them the $100+ to come back and cut it, though.

As for the mood issue...Could be, though my own mood struggles aren't limited to winter, just seem worse during the snowy months.

I'm so sorry you've been feeling so low. I hope it helps a little bit to know that you are important to me and to the others who read and comment. That you took the time and checked in with me this week means more than you can know. Perhaps it's a combination of peri-menopause and SAD but whatever the cause I hope you find what helps you overcome those feelings. It might be listening to music, treating yourself to chocolate or talking it out on your blog..take care of yourself!

As soon as I read the words, I could hear the melody to the hymn in my head. I haven`t heard it in years.

Take care!

And here's me - thinking I am the ONLY one in the world who retreats into my own world when I need to!!
Are you people from my 'tribe'?

We agree with Eileens comments, we love to read your blog and hear from you Kim. My hormones are a bit crazy at the moment, and it does feel like a slog through the working week. The things that keep me going are:

- a lotto ticket. As my brother tells me, not much money for a dream each week.
- having miss Pops finally happy and settled at home.
- having my niece nearby has been a good change.
- trying to entertain myself with some new books, movies and tv shows, as cheaply as possible.

Take care of yourself Kim - we so enjoy your company.
