Lovely Sunday in the Cemetery

[Warning: Picture-heavy post.]

I took a little jaunt into the cemetery this morning, I think for the first time since last Thanksgiving. There's always something new and fresh, something living among the dead.

There are a few homes on the road leading to the cemetery, and masses of lilacs. They all were at their peak or just past their peak.

What I found interesting was that the lilacs in the cemetery, only a short distance away (a very short distance) were just coming into bloom. Talk about a micro-climate!

These seeds caught my eye.
Most of the ferns are in full leaf now, but I spied these.
There were quite a few dead trees that look like they should come down. Maybe this one is next on the list, since all the branches have been cut down.

 I love the sunlit green.
I swear this cemetery is prettier every time I go.

I love the words of remembrance.

I was a bit sad to see this neglected gravestone.
Little Melinda's grave has red geraniums planted for the spring/summer.
Both fountain spouts have been turned on.

It took forever to get a decent snapshot of this little chipmunk, because he was running up to me looking for food, and darting everywhere. In all the years I've been coming here, I've never had a chipmunk approach me, but he's obviously getting food from some  humans who visit!

Mr. or Ms. Robin was looking a little disheveled. Either it was a fight for the worm, or more likely, a "fight" from Mr. Blue Jay--they were close to each other on the gravestones.

The blue jay finally flew off and the robin was left in peace with the worm.
The bleeding heart is obscuring the gravestone.

Then I spied these two headstones, obviously well-tended. They have different last names, but the stones are the same, so I presume they're related.
Blurry hawk. S/he was circling overhead, then landing in a treetop, only to circle again after a few minutes.

More fern pics. I couldn't help myself, I just loved how the morning light was highlighting them.

And finally, there were 4 squirrels running around having some sort of territorial dispute (presumably), but I managed only to snap Mr. or Ms. Grey.

I hope everyone had a lovely, peaceful day too!

You have such a beautiful cementary and it looks peaceful and tranquil. I wondered if you would visit Melinda's gravesite. I think of her parents who must be in their 70's tending so lovingly to her site. It's true once loved you do not die because you are remembered by that love always.

The photos are lovely, especially the one with both fountains. The hostas are so large already, mine are just up a few inches.

Hopefully the cool weather is behind you now. We had our brush with frost a few days ago and the forecast looks good going forward.

Have a great week!

I've said it before, Kim, but I'll repeat it, that is a really lovely cemetery. What a beautiful place to walk and relax! So well kept... and I love the flowers and birds, etc. A dear friend of mine passed away a few years ago and when I visit her grave-site and bring flowers I also fill a cup and saucer full of birdseed for the birds. (She and I used to have tea every week and DH had made her a bird feeder for her tree.)

What a lovely cemetery, and such beautiful pictures. We often take walks in the cemetery by our house, too. Like you, we are blessed by the peace and beauty of nature that exists there.
