Longing for a longer long weekend

Saturday almost supper time already? One day left?

Yesterday was our Canada Day holiday, lots of events taking place in celebration of our country's 149th birthday. I opted to forgo crowds and kids, as I have opted for many years now. Instead, I made my obligatory Canada Day early morning Walmart run. Ha!

The 5+ km slog, uphill (but not barefoot in the middle of a blizzard) was worth it, though:

 

 

I got pretty close to the adult, as she wasn't moving off as a rabbit normally would. And when she did, it was only to hop a bit down the embankment on my right (north side). As I was slowly passing by I saw the second rabbit and snapped the (third) pic, and it was only when I got home and downloaded them that I saw it was a young one, and presumably the reason the adult/mom wasn't going very far. 

I hope they stayed safe; they were adjacent to a major thoroughfare, and while they had a huge overgrown green space to their north, if they got scared and dashed south they'd have ended up crossing four+ lanes of traffic.

Anyway, I got to Walmart all hot and sweaty and tired, but pleased to have seen them!

And I just have to ask...Where was everyone going at 7 AM on Canada Day? The roads had more traffic than I anticipated, and Walmart already was busy when I got there at 8:00. Jeepers. Guess everyone wanted to get their items and get the heck out to enjoy the day.

Today's errands included:

• Giant Tiger (why do they never have the curtains I like in the right length or in sufficient quantity?)
• Value Village (two fleece tops for fall/winter, a long-sleeved tee, pretty scarf and also an inexpensive ceramic vase I'm using as a utensil holder)
• PetValu
• PetSmart
• Costco (sheer shopping hell, just to get in there to pick up Nicki's meds and get out again, in one piece) 
• Farm Boy

Then it was home to more laundry, vacuuming, decluttering and moving things around in anticipation of an eventual sofa delivery from Leon's. Though I'm not holding my breath they'll have ordered the right item this time.

Yesterday Ikea had free shipping (via FedEx), so I splurged and bought the sofa table I've been eyeing since April. The idea is, of course, to put it behind the new sofa, but if I don't like it there, I'll put it in the hall or elsewhere. I can always use a sofa table! 

Liatorp sofa table, below. Comes in white or grey, I ordered white. Alas, all my other furniture is dark right now, but I'm working on that. I never will buy dark-coloured furnishings again--the dust! At least on white you need a lot of dust before you can see it. :-D

I so wanted to buy a TV bench too, a Besta one with drawers, but I held off. Maybe next time (i.e. Christmas), when they offer free shipping again, for one day.

So this is my exciting holiday weekend so far. Tomorrow I hope to take my camera somewhere, even if it's just the cemetery again, or down to my usual waterfront haunt. I want to do something that doesn't involve housework or spending hours on public transit to go to a handful of stores.
