Winding up the week

Last week dragged for me, in spite of being busy at work, but this one has flown by. I wish the weekends wouldn't "fly by," though!

Morning sky on Monday the 21st, the day of the eclipse (partial for us):


I don't know anyone who had the proper glasses to view the eclipse (about 70% coverage in our area), but I briefly went out with a co-worker and did the pinhole thing. Quite a few staff people in the building did the same. It was better watching NASA's live-streaming coverage.  :-)

Below, the friendly bus stop kitty, also on the morning of the 21st. He's pretty street savvy, but still, I worry for his safety. Wish I knew his name!


The afternoon sky on Tuesday the 22nd, on the way home and waiting at the bus transfer point. We had a torrential downpour while I was on the bus, but fortunately it was over before my stop. Lucky!


Nicki, below, meowing his fool head off after I got home one day this week. Still looking for a way over that fence, all these years later!


Derry below, being Derry: that is, fare more sedate. But don't let his sweet, innocent face fool you. He has his moments. I often come downstairs in the morning to find everything on the dining table askew or off, and I know Derry's been up there. Nicki prefers to get up on the kitchen counter and knock things off.


The stunning view, below, is courtesy of my uncle who lives in Bergamo, Italy. This snapshot was taken from the highest vantage point in the city. Amazing, isn't it? Can you imagine seeing vistas like this this every day?


Oh, this week's life lesson? To not ever again eat the French fries over at the Grad Club on our campus. (Lunch with a couple of co-workers yesterday.) If ever I was in doubt that I have middle-aged, fat person digestive issues, that doubt is gone. Twenty-seven hours later and I still feel unwell, can still taste the fat. Ugh. Those fries were awfully good at the time, though! LOL.

Anyway, I hope everyone's week has been if not great, then at least pretty darned good. Wishing everyone an enjoyable weekend.

I love all the photos including the one your relative sent. As for the boys...never changing are they? Love it too. And yes to the digestive thing. Ooof.. I have learned to be careful, but at my expense.

Both sky pictures are so pretty! Yes, you were very lucky to just miss that downpour!

It's always nice to see Derry and Nicki and bus stop kitty too. I also hope he's safe.

I'm finding all kinds of food that have severe digestive consequences. I think that's been going on for some time but I finally put two and two together. I'm trying to eat better.

May this weekend crawl for both of us!

Glad you didn't get caught in the downpour. We're still waiting for rain here, had a little bit the other night but the trees are starting to show the stress with leaves turning yellow and starting to drop.

Cats are so much fun, they have such unique personalities. Nicki and Derry definitely are lovable characters.

I caught nothing of the eclipse, not that there was much here but when I finally thought to look out the window it was done. It certainly had people talking though.

I'm careful for a while, then will fall back into my old habits, then pay the price...an endless loop. LOL. Usually with coffee and sweets! Fries aren't something I typically eat, normally only one or twice when Dad is here and we're eating out. Haven't had the same reaction, though, so perhaps there was something specific (oil, other) about *those* fries.

I hope you're enjoying the weekend! I'm about ready for a nap, have been on the go since 5 AM and I'm done in! The one thing I do like about fall/winter and the darker days is that it's easier for me to go to bed early and actually settle down to sleep (not just curl up and read). Can't imagine living in northern areas where it can be light almost 24 hours a day for ages (or then dark for months on end--ugh).

I know. Sometimes I think, what have I been doing for the past 17+ years of my life? Where has that time gone? I'm afraid I'll get to the end of my time here in this life with the same thought. :-/

We had such terrible drought last spring/summer/fall and this year, unprecedented rain. If only our regions could have split the difference and found a happy medium.

I think the next eclipse that we'll see here is in 2024, and I believe it will be a totality over Lake Ontario. Should be interesting, if I'm here to see it. :-)

I do! My dad's younger brother. He's been in Italy now oh, probably over a decade, or thereabouts. Hard to remember, time flies. After he divorced his second wife (or during the process...whatever), he somehow reconnected with the Italian woman he met and fell in love with when he was 19 and in Italy. He moved, went through a lot of red tape, and they finally married some years ago. Sounds wildly romantic, but real life always has a way of creeping in after one's euphoria has worn off. Still, he likes his life there, and he makes frequent trips to Latvia, where his and dad's parents were born. Still some elderly cousins there and in Germany too, where Peter and Dad were born.

Love the photos, Kim, especially the ones of the bus stop kitty, Nicki and Derry. LOL, big surprise that my faves are the ones of the cats. :)

ALL of your captures are great, though. The eclipse was pretty cool here. We had about 71%, which was neat in and of itself. But what I found fascinating and fun was that so many people walked to Central Park (about 2 blocks from my office) in NYC to watch. It was like a super fun viewing party!

I'd love to watch storms roll in over that vantage point in Bergamo - though I don't know if storms actually do roll in there.

As for food, I am quite lucky. I can still eat pretty much anything and not worry about the effects. However, I find that I don't want the range of food that I used to when younger, so maybe my body is giving my subconscious hints. Even so, there doesn't seem to be a time when I cannot eat something, and I must have something to eat just before bed, otherwise my stomach will keep me awake complaining.

I noted in one of your responses that your uncle travels to Latvia. I've always liked the idea of those little Baltic countries. They seem to be out of some 19th century Ruritanian adventure story - though, as you write, real life is always creeping in!

Yes, far-away places can look so enchanting and appealing in photos, and they *are*, it's just that where we live eventually becomes commonplace and the issues of day-to-day life take precedence. Which still shouldn't detract from the wonder of other regions...at least as a visitor. :-)

That persistent kitty! Much cooler mornings now, need sweaters to warm up. I have to really watch what I eat and even sometimes when I think I eat the right foods I suffer later on. Remmber the good taste of the fries and not the oroblems they cause you. Hope you are having a good weekend.
