What better way to spend a holiday Monday?

This is the spare room on the outer side of the unit, across the hall from the guest room. I wanted to repaint it last year, to a neutral colour instead of the green, but didn't get to it. As of 1 PM EDT, I've got coat #2 done. I'm almost 100% sure it will need a third coat, or at the very least significant touch-ups.

Life lesson #643: Unless you can hire professionals to come in and do the work for you, don't paint your walls anything other than the lightest shade on the paint chip, whatever the preferred colour. Otherwise you'll need a lot of paint to re-cover it! (Or unless you actually enjoy painting...which I most definitely, emphatically do not.)

For those of you who have a holiday today as well, I hope you're doing something fun! Feel free to come over and help me finish up. Beer and cider in the fridge, not much in the way of food (other than fruit), but I know how to call or go online for take-out.  ;-)

I tend to like neutral colors too... although we recently (last year) painted our bedroom blue. The rest of the house is off white - tan shades. And the boys seem to be enjoying their time outside.

Actually, green is my favourite colour (soft greens, with grey or yellow undertones, not blue undertones), but the entire place needs a refresh and if I ever get to move by choice, the walls needs to be neutral, IMO. I'm going light because this unit faces north and there's little natural light.

Actually, I really liked that green colour, but it's too dark for the north-facing back room, and I want the walls to be neutral...in case I ever get to sell by choice. Well, I can dream about that! :-)

LOL! What, not even for free food/drink? :-P Coat #3 is done now anyway, my quickest and sloppiest one. No more painting!

I've been thinking about repainting my bathroom. It is a seafoam green color right now, and while it is pretty, it is showing some age and needs a refresh. I'll let you know what weekend to head over!

Yours is a three-bedroom house? That's nice, plenty of space. What do you intend to do with the extra room afterward? I always like the idea of a guest bedroom, though I suppose I'd have to want guests to come and use it, in that case.

You have more gumption (I haven't used that word in a couple of decades, and when I did, I think I was being facetious) than I do, painting walls on an extra day off. But then, I'm catching up on chores and other jobs that don't get done when I never have enough time, so I suppose my schedule is similar to yours. But I still wouldn't want to paint.

I'm not a great painter, and I'm very messy. I don't mean to be, but I'm like Pigpen, I think, at least when it comes to paint. :-)

Actually, it's 4 bedrooms, 3 of which are quite small. The master is a decent size, though not large by any means. When my ex and I purchased the place back in spring 2000, one of the back rooms was his den, one was mine, and we had an extra room for guests. So it made sense for the two of us. When we split, I (foolishly in retrospect) wanted to keep the house, I think because it was the only thing I had (the split was not my choice, though it certainly was the healthiest and best choice for us both). I never thought I'd be here too long, but that's the way things have turned out. I think that having a little detached 2-bedroom bungalow with space between me and any neighbours is a complete fantasy, but I suppose you never know what might happen in life.

That's my dream too! A little cottage with neighbours a good distance away. Not that I don't like neighbours.....I just love peace, quiet and privacy. You're right. You never know what's going to happen in life.

The original green was lovely, but I can see how it might feel dark. My entire house was painted grey, I think it has been that way since it was originally built in 1987 because the bathroom fixtures are grey as well. I've purchased the paint (a slightly lighter shade of grey) to do the two bathrooms, once the cabinets have been finished. I'm not looking forward to it, but it has to be done. I went with the lighter color as there are no windows in either bathroom.

Love the photos of the boys! So good of them not to try to help. I recall, once, in the old house I ended up with kitty footprints across the laminate floor when one of the kittens chased Sami through the paint tray. Luckily it was latex so cleaned up with water. I'd have lost my mind if it has been acrylic.

I've had kitty paint prints through my house too, with Annie and Chumley. Like you, it was with latex paint, fortunately!

Yes, painting is exhausting. And apparently leaves one stiff and sore the next day, when one is several years older since the last time they painted. :-P

Good on you for getting that job out of the way Kim. A pain to have to do it by yourself for sure, having to move the ladder and pick up the paint every time.

Glad the boys behaved themselves and didn't bother you as you worked. It looks like they are enjoying their spring.

Yes, it's nice to have it done. I think it could have used a 4th coat after all, but there's no way on this earth I'm putting 4 coats of paint on anything. I must say, though, the lighter colour highlights the splotches of green on the ceiling, from my goofs from the previous painting. :-P

We admire your industrious spirit, Kim. We hate painting, too, but it would probably be a teeny bit more fun if you had company/someone to commiserate with. ;)

Kim, I swear I am actually and sincerely in awe of your ability to get things done at your home. I am as useless as (the phrase I always use because it is so true) mammary glands on a boar hog. I am useless around the house except for keeping it clean and shiny. I can't assemble things though I have tried. I start..get bogged down in their "directions" !!!! and the project waited each time until rescue arrived. Your energy and "just do it" are awesome in getting jobs like painting; and the larger ones for your renovations, done and done well. The boys know when to just give orders and how-to to you and to stay out of the way.

I know you're sincere, Carole, but really, your "praise" is not as warranted as you think. I haven't done any painting in 3 - 4 years, except for trim, and that took me about a year and a half to do anyway. Eventually I cave in and get it done because if I don't do it, no one else will (unless I pay them, which isn't feasible for things I actually am able to do for myself). If I had the financial means, I wouldn't do a thing in that house, I'd pay to have people come in and do it all!
