Monday Mancat Memories

Snapshots from September 2008. I know I'm always posting the same pics, just from different months and years, but of course this was their lives.

Below: Another day in the garden, another insect to snack on. Derry was very good at insect-catching. Nicki didn't have the patience, so the occasional time that he did catch his own, I think it must have been from sheer luck.

As for other memories: Among the few childhood items that Mom had left for me were 55 slides, dating back from my birth in 1964. I took them to our downtown camera store and had them scanned and transferred onto a memory stick. I picked them up Saturday afternoon and then spent a bit of time editing as necessary, for size and colour. I'll refrain from posting any blurry pics of me as a baby, bare backside, lying on a couch. LOL. (There were two of those!)

These three below were taken when I was about five-ish, at Haldimand Beach in Gaspé, so probably 1969, give or take a year. Mom would have been in her late 20s. Of all the slides she had (Dad has hundreds, if not thousands, as he was the photographer), these are my favourite. As always, Mom had a cigarette in her hand!

The pic below was taken when I was three, so in 1967, also at Haldimand Beach. It was our first summer in Gaspé, as we moved there from Montreal that spring. It was Mom's favourite of the early pics, or so she used to say.

Note my little red oxfords! It was always red oxfords one year, navy blue the next. It's a good thing children's footwear has come a long way since then.  :-)

Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely day.

The boys always look delightful. I'll be sorry when you post winter photos as time is appropriate, lol. Keep showing the green.
I never gave it consideration before, but I guess you are bi-lingual with English and French? Sometimes I think I should have really really learned another language. Spanish as it is now our 2nd language.
Good photos of you and your mother. I have none left from the few
my grandmother would have take of me with my mother. Dad did not use the Kodak Brownie unfortunately. Lynn and Precious XX

Lynn, I'm not bilingual, though it would be logical to think so. Mom and I left Quebec when I was 16, and any French I remembered from school was quickly gone.

I'm sorry you don't have any childhood pics with your mom. I treasure these, am glad Mom had kept them. Dad probably is sitting on a treasure trove of family pics, even though we were not a happy family. I was oblivious to all of that, though. Our families are just our norm, whatever the experience is.
Sweet childhood photos. My mother always had a cigarette in her hand too. How times have changed! It was only when my mum died in 1982 that I found a folder where she had kept photos of her honeymoon and also of me and my dad. I had never seen them before. My dad died when I was 5 and she was 25. She would never talk about him because it upset her too much. Treasure those photos!
Love the insect catching photos. Eric loved to catch grasshoppers.

Kim Your beautiful mom left a treasure for you in the slides. I love the one of you and mom kissing.
What a wonderful thing technology can now make them forever yours.
Hugs Cecilia
Dearest Kim,
Those are indeed treasures to have!
The 2008 Nicki and Derry the insect hunter but even more so the Gaspé images.
Cute little Kim with her Mom.
It seems that you are the only child...
Hugs,
Mariette

It seems you're destined to live by large bodies of water. I envy you that. And Derry and Nicky... When there is a bug to hunt, there's nothing else in the world.

Mariette, thanks for stopping by. Yes, I'm an only child, something I feel keenly now, though I know many who do not have good relationships with their siblings. I'm saddened by that, not having any at all.

John, the only time I didn't live near water was the first three years of my life in Montreal, which I don't really recall, and the one year we lived in Cranbrook, BC. Haldimand Beach was a drive for us, though not far, but the York River flowed behind our house and into Gaspe Bay. I hope I always will live near water, though I don't need beaches. A lovely brook in the woods will do nicely!

The photos of Nicki and Derry are so sweet, I'm so glad you share them with us.

You are very fortunate to have the photos of you and your mom. I can't think of a photo with mine when I was young. I think my mom was the photographer so there are photos of my siblings and I.

The last photo of the kiss you shared is so sweet. What wonderful memories to look back on.

As time has gone by and those that are no longer here with us in the physical form, I find that everyday life with them, captured for that split moment means so much...more now. So, chasing bugs reminds us of how precious that moment was. As does the childhood photos. Back in the 60's we had an 8mm camera and those few reels were transferred to digital form and seeing those silent movies is bittersweet and wonderful.
Those were sure fun photos, all of them!
