Katie and Carl: Working Hard!

Snapped on Saturday, downtown. The city has a number of holiday events taking place, including Santa down at Market Square behind City Hall, wagon rides, etc.
 
Katie is on the left, Carl on the right. They're Clydesdale crosses (I asked).


The line up for a ride was long. I told the fellow giving the rides that I hoped Katie and Carl were getting extra treats that night, for all their hard work.

It's been forty years since I've had horses in my life and even so, being up close with them, especially working horses still has the power to bring me to tears, for the life my heart wanted.

It was wonderful to see them and give them a few pats. 😊

Those horses are so huge I'm actually surprised they let you get close enough to Pat them. But I'm glad they did since you like horses. I only like them from a distance because I never grew up with them and they are so huge. Occasionally I run into them on the bike path and Amish country. It look like you had beautiful weather for the parade. We just got over 3 days of rain and I'm grateful it wasn't snow. The sun is actually going to shine today before the cold weather comes back.

Our parade actually was in November, this is a couple of weekends of activities to bring people downtown.

The horses are gentle, have to be, with so many children around!

So being "crosses" they are not so shaggy, right ... not so much on their feet I think ... and oh my, I think I still have photos in the Fuzzy Tales file of your
horses!!! Had forgotten ... what magnificent animals they are. I always enjoy them in parades far more than the people! NEIGH!

Those horses are beautiful. I really miss having my own horses but being partially disabled it would be impossible for me to ride now. My last horse died in 2003 and was a Cleveland Bay. My heart horse died in 1998. He was an Irish TB ex racehorse and lived to 34 which is very old for a TB. We have 7 horses here at DIY livery so I can still see horses every day.

Jackie, I'm glad you still have horses in your life! My first soulmate was our neighbour's work horse while I was growing up. I used to take care of her in the winters for him, since he had bad knees and wading through the snow to the barn was hard. My second soulmate was another sweet mare at the agricultural college I went to, for their horse care and management program. Both mares were chestnuts, gentle, such sweet dispositions. Mixed breeds, no idea what. Polly and Samm. ❤️❤️

Kim, I didn't have the experience of caring for a horse but I wished so much that I had or could have done. My Dad had a roan for quite while...I was on him...too young to ride him. But it set me up to always love horses.

Kim OMHorses....Katie and Carl are just breathtaking and I love that they have a working life. This type of horse thrives on working.
We adore, Gentle Giants, a program on RFD TV all about heavy horses. Clydesdales, Percherons, Belgians. Once years ago when our daughter was about 12, The Budweiser Clydesdales came thru Raleigh. We went to see them but the amazing thing
was the most melodious sound we heard first. All those might hooves in unison..we felt it all thru our body. Then to see them ,,,and stand by them. Truly the meaning of AWESOME.
