Friday Funny on Canada Day

Image
I saw this in my Pinterest feed and burst out laughing.  That likely sums it all up, from a cat's point of view. :-) ****** Today is Canada Day, and while I acknowledge that many people who live in this country have little or nothing to celebrate, especially those who are Indigenous, I'm sending out Happy Canada Day wishes regardless. We're blessed to live in a democratic country, whatever our problems, and lucky to have the freedom to express ourselves. It's unfortunate that those who enjoy causing dissent and strife can't experience life in another country, one that doesn't have these freedoms. Perhaps then they would have a better appreciation for life here in our country. With that in mind, this also popped up in my Pinterest feed and it seemed appropriate to share. We're sending out Light and Blessing to All Beings. Peace.

Wordless Wednesday with the boys

Image
(For Carole!) From June 2014. Derry curled up in the plant pot and Nicki looking adorable, probably after doing something really obnoxious. LOL. Comments are off.

Mancat Monday

Image
Derry says thank you for all the birthday wishes! He got lots of garden time, more than usual.   The heat and humidity were stifling (for us) over the weekend, so garden time was limited. Napping time was not. ****** Earlier this morning I was looking for a particular photo for a work-related reason, and came across this snapshot from October 28, 2018. Angel Nicki, with Derry napping in the foreground. I wouldn't say the boys were bonded, it was more a case of Derry being somewhere and Nicki, being dominant, trying to oust him, with Derry refusing to budge. :-P Happy Monday!

Happy 15th Birthday, Derry!

Image
June 24 (2007) is the date the shelter had for Derry's birthday, though he and his siblings were found when they were between four and five weeks old, so of course that's an estimate. After last year's health issues, and eight vet visits (including two emerg vet visits) in eleven months, I wasn't convinced Derry would make it to 15, but happily and thankfully he has. Since none of us is guaranteed another day, we're going to enjoy ourselves and celebrate with lots of treats, brushies and cuddles. (Okay, Derry gets that every day, but still...LOL.) Happy birthday, my sweet Derry-Bear. I couldn't have asked for a better cat companion...even if your early morning yeowling (to "entice" me out of bed) does drive me crazy.  Smooches! ♥

Monday Musings

Image
We're still here and doing fine at the moment. I haven't been blogging much because (a) I've entered my stupid-busy time of year and (b) there really isn't much to update on. (It's a sad irony that the nicest time of year, weather-wise, is my my worst time of year, work-wise.) It's a banner spring for my hostas, which haven't looked so good in a long time. That will change with the coming heat, as presumably we will get stifling temperatures at some point, but for now I'm just enjoying them before they're fried to a crisp. I'm inching closer to the actual bathroom reno, because I now have a new three-piece acrylic tub and surround sitting in my garage, delivered by the contractor and his guys (sons) last week. I'm NOT looking forward to demo day, but I AM looking forward to getting rid of the old steel tub, worn down to black in various spots, and the old, cheap surround that is cracked in too many places and patched with white duct tape. Emmy - Puppy Therapy

Image
I met Emmy on my walk home this morning. She's a 12-week old Akita pup, just two days in her new (hopefully forever) home. Look at those legs and paws, she's going to be a big girl! She's a doll, and she was being such a good girl, not pulling on the leash or jumping on me or others, or their dogs. She'll make her human mom a great companion! It made my day to meet her. There's nothing like puppy (or kitten) therapy, even if only for a few minutes.  Peace.

"Painted ladies"

Image
"...Painted ladies and a bottle of wine mama "Ooh ooh Feeling good mama..." I'm certainly old enough to remember that Ian Thomas song. :-) However, the "painted ladies" I'm referring to are the painted turtles (no idea of gender) I saw yesterday, while out of town visiting a friend. I took many more turtle pics, more than any person needs, but these were just a few. We saw adults and young, tiny ones; oodles of turtles! The pond we stopped at first was pretty scummy, though. Disgusting, actually. But a haven for geese, ducks, fish and even a heron. Maybe I'll post more pics another time; right now I'll leave it with just some of the turtles. I had to post; I've had that song's chorus stuck in my head since yesterday afternoon!  :-D Peace.

Time flies with short work weeks

Image
I see it's almost ten days since I posted; I didn't realize it was that long.  I now notice that when I want to add a photo from my Google Albums, it no longer shows me any past 2021. I have to go into Google Photos (i.e. not the nicely organized albums) to scroll to the pics I want. Hmm. Not impressed with Blogger at the moment. Anyway, it was a wonderful extra long, long holiday weekend from May 20 - 23 inclusive. I wish  EVERY week was three days of work and four of "weekend!" This weekend IS another four-day weekend for me, as I took yesterday (Friday the 27th) as a vacation day, and I'm taking Monday as well. I'll be out of town for most of the day on Monday visiting a friend--she's driving half an hour, I'm taking the train for half an hour, and we're meeting in the middle to catch up. I'm looking forward to it! Below: The ferns from the other side of the fence have been making themselves at home in my garden for the third spring and are ...

Thankful Thursday

Image
I'm thankful for this dear little one, my heart. ♥ I'm thankful the university is closed tomorrow, giving us an extra, extra long weekend. Monday is the Victoria Day holiday and since 2020 the administration has given us an extra day off. I presume all Ontario universities are doing the same; ours certainly wouldn't do it solo! I'm thankful for the blooms, now come and gone. Last week was quite warm, summer-like, and all the apple and cherry tree blossoms peaked. Most of their flowers are gone now, but they were glorious while they lasted. I'm thankful the dentist who replaced the filling in one of my lower molars this morning had a soft touch with the needle, because I needed three of them to completely freeze me. I'm still frozen, almost four hours later, but it's better than feeling any pain! I'm booked for a temporary crown on that tooth (it's cracked in several spots) on July 15, then for the permanent one on July 29. Ugh. However, I'm certa...

Three hungry mouths to feed

Image
No, no more adoptions! LOL. I finally was able to get a so-so snapshot of the baby robins (three of them) in the nest tucked into the cedar shrub outside the front door. Not great, because of all the branches, but you still can see all three beaks. Or parts thereof. They're finally big enough to be seen, and Derry certainly enjoys watching the parents come and go in the early mornings, feeding them. (I put a stool in front of the screen door for him.) I wish Derry would eat more, but oh well. He likes the Royal Canin urinary + hydrolyzed protein dry, but is meh on the Hills z/d canned, even with the beef liver topper I add, or the FortiFlora. Well, he's almost 15 (about 76 in human years), and my own appetite might not be great when I'm that age either. As for other critters, I did luck out with a snapshot of a woodpecker earlier this week, while on my morning jaunt for a latté, and also managed to snap a pic of a rabbit, who froze in someone's driveway, while I fumbl...
