(Not) Wordless Wednesday

I heard a ruckus outside last Friday morning, January 21st, around 10:45 AM. Not unusual, as the young father in one of the rental units across the street has some sort of "building" business and has turned the garage into a workshop. (I'm sure this is against condo bylaws, but hey, in our particular complex, that doesn't matter. Nor does safety.)

I got up to look out the front bedroom window and saw this:

If you enlarge the pic you will see four (!) of our city's police officers on site. Four! I have no idea what they were looking for (drugs? stolen merchandise?), and I have no idea if they found it. They did tear part of the makeshift garage door down, and things remained that way until sometime today when I noticed that the real garage door has been put back on. There has been no sign of the young family since Friday, and their van has been gone since then as well.

In all the years that the unit has been rented out, not once--not once!--have the tenants been problem-free. The previous renters also had a police visit and were gone shortly after, and the renters before them were evicted and trashed the place when they left. There were other renters before them, all with "issues" with the law. Either the owner is a greedy so-and-so (I believe she has done work for our university's law department) or she's an unbelievably poor judge of character. Maybe both.

Perhaps at some point I'll run into someone on our street who knows what happened. Gosh, it's so "fun" living here!

Peace.

It looks to me like that is just too close for comfort. To look at your own window and to see that there is such activity going on, even if you don't know the specifics you can see that it must not be good. Too bad for the children involved in that family. If things were illegal that is certainly no way to bring up children. And I'm thinking that it's entirely too close to your own home when you can look out the window.

That's never a good sight to see in the neighbourhood.
Dearest Kim,
Wow, that must have been some illegal 'workshop' and/or business going on there...
Stay safe with your Derry and one never knows!
Hugs,
Mariette

Well, I see they are NOT gone...he, at least, must be back because he's got the garage door up and covered with styrofoam sheets and plastic again. No van in site, however. Maybe it was impounded.

I will NOT be sorry to eventually move. LOL.

You know when you move or when when a neighbor moves the worry is always what kind of people are around. I have quite a bit of distance if you will between myself and neighbors (it was one of things we looked for when we moved 20+ yrs ago) but the person who is closest to my property was the one I worried about the most, and it's been OK but not spectacular. The neighbors that lived across the street from me use to always put out major fireworks every holiday. I was so glad they relocated. It was unnerving to find firework residue in your backyard.
the stories I could tell about the neighbors 4 houses down

**** and **** have had to install security camera's { at their expense & per police }
so that the "neighbors" could be caught on film

across the street and two over have no regard for anyone, at any time, for any reason
and basically do as they please and to hell with everything and everyone

word is, that the house on the cul de sac down the street has been trashed so badly
it's disgusting { a rental }

and don't EVEN get me started on the neighbors in the town I lived in previously

I hope this situation goes from.. as is.....to far better... for you and everyone else living
there
That is not the sort of excitement you want so close to home.
That's got to be pretty uncomfortable for you, I do hope he moves on and someone better rents the place.

Yikes. I'm sorry that happened so close to you, Kim. It's unsettling, to say the least! We came home one time, and there were five police cars with lights flashing and a crime van four doors down. They were searching that house for the tenant's boyfriend, who was wanted in connection with a murder. So the story goes, they did not find him. He later met his demise in South Carolina when he tangled with the police there.

Not good. It seems obvious there was some sort of illegal activity going on for the police to be there..and so many of them. Hopefully they do decide to move and you get better neighbours in the process.
We've had one house with renters that caused a few issues when they first moved in with noise and continuous moving in and out of various individuals, but the revolving door of tenants seems to have settled down. We're on a friendly wave basis now. I had horrid neighbours at the old house - there were so many things that I disliked about them.

What in the world is it with plastic and styrofoam sheets for pete sake?
Sometimes our neighbours are a source of amusment as long as we are safe in our own home
